Stop trying to cope with this news by thinking he’s a backup. He will play far more games than he should for us. Absolutely bog standard transit lounge era signing if ever I’ve seen.

This is not Michael Jennings coming back for a swansong as 4th choice. This is Robbo panicking that we can’t get Sandon and Sam firing so he goes for a stopgap option. The only saving grace is that last time we made a dud decision like this, like replacing RTS with Gordon, it resulted in a bigger signing coming the year after.

We won’t get Sandon firing at 6 if he gets zero game time there.

There's only one way this make sense to me. Townsend is only a #7, I can't imagine him playing 5/8, and I certainly don't want Walker moved to 6 and then back again. So maybe the longer term plan is for Sandon Smith at half and Walker at #6? I'm confused.

The Knights are under salary cap pressure so they need to offload a number of their players who are on around the $750k a year range. The other solution to their problem would be sending Ponga our way.

we do have the money - yes it’s not a cronk or Teddy signing but wi the the experience we are loosing it may help for a season
experienced half who can kick goals and has won a premiership he can also play 6 so I presume he will start there
hard on sandon smith but there will be a reason for it

maybe also with Watson playing 13, Whyte in the front row rotation and rads on the edge they are looking for sandon to play the 14 role for 2025?
not all for it but not against the townsend idea either
we have cash and need to spend something somewhere
it still doesn’t provide us long term cover so either sandon will have to wait again which is frustrating or they are planning for a big fish in 2026

I don't get this one. If he was 28-29 maybe, but don't see the point in hold Sandon back aņother season. Townsend is no Cronk and won't deliver us a comp next year.
