I'm backing us to lock him in long term on at least a mill a season. He's the cornerstone of our club going forward.

I heard Hooper say all this last night. To boil it down, it was mentioned on NRL360 that we’re trying to lock Sammy down, but because we haven’t done that in the 24 hours since it was first announced, Hooper the Genius has started to formulate his next intrigue, being that Walker MAY NOT be keen to re-sign with us, and MAY want to wait until 1 November when he can test himself on the open market (note his choice of words showing that this is just pure guesswork). Braith asked him if he’d heard anything, which gave rise to Hooper’s emphatic assertion that he’s “absolutely” heard that the Broncos are interested. Now, I have no doubt they are, but you also can’t discount the distinct probability that all Hooper has heard are the voices in his own head. As soon as it was announced that we were hoping to secure Sam before 1 November, I thought (a) good, and (b), the journos won’t like that, because it will deprive them of a storyline aimed at destabilising us. Contracts, especially upgraded contracts, take some time, they could get some mileage out of it. Clearly, Hooper has decided to get onto it early. Honestly, you can almost predict some of the stories these guys are going to come up with.

This is 100% Sam’s team and that will give an advantage to us. He has the combinations and everything all sorted here.
At the broncos, the positives are a young team who have been together for a while. The negative is Reece Walsh. He is the poster boy and the team is run around him.
Sam looks a lot more free now that Radley has moved to an edge and we no longer have a ball playing lock.
I really just hope he signs.

If he doesn’t. I would go absolutely hard at Mitchel Moses.

Mitch Moses, while extremely talented is a whiny bitch who won’t ever win a comp.

I reckon in 3 years time a mill a season will be an absolute bargain. He’ll likely be a state of origin mainstay by then. To be paying your halves around 1.5 million a season total would be a huge win. I can’t imagine Sandon would be on more than $500k over the next few years. And I think we’re on a real winner with Sandon. He’s performed to at least a 7/10 every time he’s played first grade, has handled the physicality of the middle no problem and has some exceptional fundamental skills. I was watching the Cup highlights from last weekend and Jade Anderson made a break down Sandon’s edge and Sandon quite easily keeps pace with him while all the Jets players are getting accelerated past. I’ve worked with Jade Anderson and he is genuinely the most rapid player I’ve seen in the flesh. Now that was 5 years back and he may have lost a yard since then, but I do think Sandon will surprise some people with how easily he can get on the outside of edge defenders. He should complement Sam very well as more of a running threat, a good long kicker, a pinpoint long passer and a strong defender.

Totally agree with your thoughts mate, Sammy would feel he owes the club a lot after the way they’ve handled his development and the life experiences he’s been able to have with the club. Can’t see him going anywhere if he does get offered a mill now.

No doubt the Bronco's and probably half a dozen other clubs are interested in signing him likewise we are interested in a number of players at other clubs.
A star comes onto the market and clubs are interested.
It's all part of the game in signing players that managers play in trying to increase the value of their clients.

If we and the Bronco's offer a million a season I would expect him to stay unless being around family is a something that out ways the money, if we offer $200,000 less I would expect him to go.
If clubs like the Titans or Tigers offer $1,200,000 a season I think he would decline.

Sam Walker is a massive priority to lock up long term. If we lose him then we are totally stuffed.

Not sure if money will be the issue here as both us & them will throw the cheque book at him.

The issue with being dropped & being the only scapegoat during that underperforming period last year might still be a sticking point with him & his family.

The closer November1 gets & if he still hasn't signed the worry will definitely be in overdrive.

I don't get people bringing this up. Manu got dropped, Mithcell got dropped, Angus got dropped. It's footy, sometimes you're not at your best and you have to take your licks and learn from it.

I think he stays...but let's not kid ourselves, the Broncos are a threat.

The lure of going home and he is tight with Ezra, they will make a play for him obviously

Hopefully he stays and plays 300+ games with us

Sammy may be worth $1.5 million a year if he reaches his potential. Currently $1million a year is overs imo. I like Sammy but I still have my doubts. He's yet to win a comp or play rep footy. He couldn't get it done in his last big game against The Storm when our season was on the line. Anything more than $800k a year is a gamble.

The only possible danger was Brisbane. Their cap is cactus. We have $3.5 million in ours. He’s not going anywhere.

Not if Souffs/ Bennett give Adam Reynolds a 2 year deal starting next season. This would free up $800k for the Broncos. Teams will find the money if they need player x bad enough.

So it was his fault Pauga got out leapt? Geez you're harsh. He's nailed a number of game winning field goals for us in the short period of time he's been playing and he's still only 22. He is a bargain at $1m a season and sometimes you have to buy on potential not current performances....much like we did with a tear away front rower from Manly many years ago.
