I heard Hooper say all this last night. To boil it down, it was mentioned on NRL360 that we’re trying to lock Sammy down, but because we haven’t done that in the 24 hours since it was first announced, Hooper the Genius has started to formulate his next intrigue, being that Walker MAY NOT be keen to re-sign with us, and MAY want to wait until 1 November when he can test himself on the open market (note his choice of words showing that this is just pure guesswork). Braith asked him if he’d heard anything, which gave rise to Hooper’s emphatic assertion that he’s “absolutely” heard that the Broncos are interested. Now, I have no doubt they are, but you also can’t discount the distinct probability that all Hooper has heard are the voices in his own head. As soon as it was announced that we were hoping to secure Sam before 1 November, I thought (a) good, and (b), the journos won’t like that, because it will deprive them of a storyline aimed at destabilising us. Contracts, especially upgraded contracts, take some time, they could get some mileage out of it. Clearly, Hooper has decided to get onto it early. Honestly, you can almost predict some of the stories these guys are going to come up with.

This is 100% Sam’s team and that will give an advantage to us. He has the combinations and everything all sorted here.
At the broncos, the positives are a young team who have been together for a while. The negative is Reece Walsh. He is the poster boy and the team is run around him.
Sam looks a lot more free now that Radley has moved to an edge and we no longer have a ball playing lock.
I really just hope he signs.
If he doesn’t. I would go absolutely hard at Mitchel Moses.

Totally agree with your thoughts mate, Sammy would feel he owes the club a lot after the way they’ve handled his development and the life experiences he’s been able to have with the club. Can’t see him going anywhere if he does get offered a mill now.

No doubt the Bronco's and probably half a dozen other clubs are interested in signing him likewise we are interested in a number of players at other clubs.
A star comes onto the market and clubs are interested.
It's all part of the game in signing players that managers play in trying to increase the value of their clients.
If we and the Bronco's offer a million a season I would expect him to stay unless being around family is a something that out ways the money, if we offer $200,000 less I would expect him to go.
If clubs like the Titans or Tigers offer $1,200,000 a season I think he would decline.

Sam Walker is a massive priority to lock up long term. If we lose him then we are totally stuffed.
Not sure if money will be the issue here as both us & them will throw the cheque book at him.
The issue with being dropped & being the only scapegoat during that underperforming period last year might still be a sticking point with him & his family.
The closer November1 gets & if he still hasn't signed the worry will definitely be in overdrive.

Sammy may be worth $1.5 million a year if he reaches his potential. Currently $1million a year is overs imo. I like Sammy but I still have my doubts. He's yet to win a comp or play rep footy. He couldn't get it done in his last big game against The Storm when our season was on the line. Anything more than $800k a year is a gamble.
