  • Official Match Day Thread: Roosters v Saints

    July 7, 2024

    International Jared Waerea-Hargreaves Day.

First it was 300 NRL games, then came 300 NRL games for The Roosters and then equal most games for the Roosters.

I can’t recall a more momentous occasion for our club for a regular c season game. Today we come together to honour one of the greatest Roosters and one of the greatest front rowers of all time.

What a feat to play more games than anyone for our great club and in a position that is undoubtedly the toughest.

In my time as a supporter I haven’t seen a more dominant and influential player. There have been so many occasions in the past when I’ve said to the person next to me, “Bring Jared back on we are losing the forward battle”.

Jared is irreplaceable. He won’t find another. We have some good front rowers but none that will ever play the same role Jared has since he arrived at the club in 2010.

He’s many people’s favourite on the field and most people’s favourite off it. I’ll never forget sitting next to him watching reserve grade at Henson Park and he was out injured at the time. I said you to him, “you must be dying to get back on the field”. His response, “I just want to bash people”. How could you not have anything but love and admiration for a guy who represents your club and says this.

It’s often said he is the heart and sole of the team, our spiritual leader. Truer words have never been spoken.

We have so much to play for today to get the win for our most capped and respected Rooster.

Jared I thank you for all the effort you have put into our club over the years. All the muscle you’ve provided, all the leadership you’ve provided and all the energy too. And thank you for always having time for us fans.

Jared we absolutely love and adore you. You will be sorely missed. So much respect!

    Kick-off 2pm.

GO ROOSTERS and go THE MIGHTY JARED WAEREA-HARGREAVES!

He’s made an incredible contribution to the club. Even our greatest detractor, Gordon Tallis, was full of praise during the week. He said that Jaz is the equal of Webke, Petro & Lazarus.

Earlier this year Paul Gallen said Jaz was the reason he knew it was time to retire. We played them a couple of times that season and Gallen said Jaz just kept bashing him, and that’s what made him realise he was done. He also called him “the nicest bloke in the world“ off the field.

A true warrior and a true Rooster. Irreplaceable.

Enjoy this massive achievement Jared. I’m sure the boys will put on a great show for you.

I’ve been following the Roosters since the mid 70s.
JWH is my favourite ever player
There's a reason why the young and idealistic become the old and cynical.
        It's called experience.

Told my St George mate that we're still the underdogs as Manu's out and Lomax is the best centre in the comp. He blew up... nyuk nyuk nyuk

Superb tribute Thirteen. Like many I have followed the mighty ESDRLFC since the mid-70s. Jazz is the best prop we have ever had and one of our greatest club legends. I hope the boys get the win for him today. We will all miss our irreplaceable “Merchant of Menace” when he is gone.

What an occasion for Jared. 15 seasons as the best prop forward in the game. He is the ultimate warrior. To become the most capped player at the most famous of clubs and to do it playing the toughest position on the field, is incredible. The aggression gets the headlines, but there is so much more to his game than aggression. His foot speed in defense in the middle. The lightning fast play the balls. The one on one tackles where his perfect technique cuts charging ball runners in half. He's even got the silky hands of a five-eighth.

If you wanted to build the perfect prototype front rower, and you picked the skills and abilities required for every facet of the position, you'd build Jared. It's that simple.

I agree with 13 - this is the most momentous occasion in the history of the club.

What's really important is we win.
I'm sick of dropping games against lesser opposition.
                    I want 50.

You're best ever match day thread Thirteen, inspiring tribute to your favourite player. It's all been said about the incomparable JWH.

Great that we get a Sunday arvo game to celebrate.

Saints will be out for redemption after we embarrassed them last time. Both teams have named an all forward bench. Assume Connor switches to 9 when Whyte comes on and goes the distance. Winning the physical battle is going to be uppermost in both teams minds...strap yourself in. Then we earn the right to unleash that brilliant attack thats become a weekly thing.

Bit weaker in the centres today. Might see more attacking corner kicks to the wings esp on our left side. Apart from the centres we have had a much better run with injuries than previous years, which has seen our attack blossom.

The edge forward battle with Gus and Vic up against Sua and Leilua will be key.

Winning this game is very important, in my opinion, so that we can remove ourself a little bit from that group of ten teams sitting on 18-22 points. We need to stop losing winnable games.
