  • Spencer and walker update!

Sounds like we are in the works with Leniu and walker to re sign

Can’t bellieve we have Spencer on just over $500k but his value will have sky rocketed now - he will be commanding $800k or so
Spencer has been great and will carry on the front row with Collins, May and Whyte going forward

Great murmurs to hear as both of them have big futures.

Makes me reflect on Robbo's recent interview where he said JWH has trained far more front rowers than he has.

Leniu was always part of the Penrith systems but played very few minutes in the GF and I got the feeling Penrith were happy to see him go. Then zap... suddenly he's an Origin player who's one of the comp's form front rowers.

Even Lodge was showing crazy form at one point. Hopefully JWH is able to keep influencing our front rowers into the distant future as I reckon true mastery of a skill is to then be able to teach others and watch them become champs.

    ...

Walker? People are starting to say his short kicking game's better than Cleary's. He's like buying our forever home... it seemed expensive when we were coughing up the dough at the time but now that sorta money for a house in our suburb (let alone a massive corner block with views) seems ridiculously low.

      Good analogy!

If he demands 1.2M for 5 years, I reckon we'll have to cough it up.

People were bagging us back in 2009 when we forked out $250k a season for an inexperienced front rower from Manly. Sometimes you have to buy on potential and hope it works out.

Exactly the salary cap is going up every year and good halves will be worth more and more
we have lost a lot of money and have $ to spend
even front rowers and centres are demanding $800k

If Luai is worth $1.4M per season then Sammy is worth $2M per season ffs. Poor old Tiger town. Fatso is as dumb as his predecessor.

5 years at $5.5M gradually increasing each year sounds about right for Sammy.

Spencer looks so happy and whole. The Chooks complete him! I can't see him moving on until he's ready to retire or top up his retirement fund over in the UK. Our club culture is second to none which helps when it comes to renegotiating contracts. Walker will also be with us longterm imo but he won't come cheap.

I agree . The simple fact is that there would be at least half a dozen clubs who would give him 1.2 mill tomorrow, including most importantly the Broncos . The roosters won’t muck around with this . Sam will get what he deserves and if you think other clubs aren’t already throwing numbers at his management then your delusional.

The millions that we have spare next year will partly go towards the upgrades and extensions of Sammy, Spencer and even Connor.

I can't see either wanting to leave and I also don't think either of them will chase or demand Tigers like money.

Walker is worth $1.2M in my opinion.

We should offer $6M over 5 years now to lock him up

That's $250k when good halves were getting $500/$600k. Apples and oranges.

We're in all sorts of trouble if Walker turns out to be another Luke Brooks. Giving him $1.2 million a year for 5 years would be irresponsible imo. We can't be held to ransom just because another club offers him silly money. No one is bigger than the club!

No it's not. JWH was 6 games into his NRL career. The base wage was about $50k and we paid him 5 times that. Walker is more than 50 games into a very promising NRL career and easily worth at least $900k a season on the open market. The Luke Brooks comparison is the apples and oranges comparison because Walker is already a far better player then he ever was.

I’d throw the bank at both. No other players I’d rather in those positions.

I see him as the new TKO !

Luke Brooks was meant to be the next Andrew Johns. The Tigers locked him into a long term deal worth $1.1 million a year and they still haven't recovered.

We didn't pay JWH 5 times his market value! There were other bids around the $170k mark. You can absorb paying $80k overs if things don't work out but you can't be paying a young halfback $1.2 million who's yet to reach his potential.

I like Sammy, Give him $2 million a year if there was no salary cap however I'd be surprised if the club offers him more than $3.6 mill over 4 years.
