So if we’re only tabling 900k per season, it’s really just Walkers camp boosting his value, I don’t think he’s genuinely wanting to leave.

Bronx seem the only possible option but it’s doubtful they’ll match the asking price.

I reckon we keep him and both parties will meet half way. Unless we get into GF and win, then Walker demands what ever he wants.

I hope he signed soon.. last thing we need is this to drag on and play on his minds and him trying to overplay his hands come finals to further prove his worth.. and end up not playing his natural game.

Won’t be entirely his fault if the standoff is due to Roosters baulking with the $, especially when it’s clear as day that other clubs will be giving him that $1m+.

anyway, everything there is purely speculation but can’t help but get a bit nervous about the whole thing!

I see we are going to have to put up with daily News Ltd/Telucrap/Fox Sports articles suggesting Walker is going to hit the open market and sign with the highest bidder.

$1.4M price tag now. What a way to play on the kid’s head.

Give him $1.5 million a year if we win the comp. At this point in time he's only worth $800k to $900k max a season.

Fox is trying to compare him to Luai who is coming off 3 straight premierships. Walker is our number one priority but not at any cost.

I agree. We need to draw a line in the sand. Some forget that it’s a business and the books need to be balanced. Can’t throw all eggs in one basket. Let Walker win us a few games verses a decent team before we start talking a million. If he wants to chase the money than let him. Nobody is bigger than the club.

IMO a lot of the shyte about him testing the market is just media hype.

If I were Walker then I'd be of the opinion that I can win Easts a premiership and by doing so, get picked as part of the Kangaroos squad. Do that and IMO he can pretty much ask Uncle Nick to sign a blank cheque.

Flip side... bomb out in week 2 of the finals with a poor showing and Watto/Leniu/Chichton/May...etc will all be smiling that they signed the dotted line early on.

Like I said in another thread this is what's happening

I dont think its so much Sammy trying to increase his price tag but I think its his dad Ben & his 2 uncles Shane & Chris.
I think Ben is going to try & play the Roosters & advice his son to leave if the Broncos offer is better.
If his dad & uncles were happy with the supposed 1.8M for 2 seasons that the Roosters have offered Sam would have signed already.
Ben, Shane & Chris all played NRL for many different NRL clubs so that tells me they were prepared to play for any club that payed the highest price, I believe their philosophy is to make as much money as you can & hopefully win a comp or 2 but money is number 1.
Would they like Sammy to win a comp with the Chooks & stay at the Chooks I would say yes but only if it means Sam is earing at least 1.2M a season for season 2026 & 2027.

                    • Realistically Sam has zero reason to sign now. He’ll have $1m contracts lined up with the minnow clubs, and there is no one on the market for the roosters to chase to replace him.

i reckon he’s rolling the dice that he can get us a win over the panthers in week 1 and then that will trigger a million dollar offer from us

                      • So many people in the media and in the chookpen who know what is going on with Sammy, what he is thinking, what his uncles are thinking, what his manager is thinking, what Uncle nick is thinking and what Robbo is thinking. Does anyone know what his Mum is thinking? I haven't heard about her thoughts.

he won’t be staying at $900k if he goes to market. We will lose him at that price.

yep they are trying to bump up his price tag. 900K is a starting offer and I think roosters will be prepared to bump it up.

Sammy seems smart though and it would surely have to weigh on his mind that moving to the broncos would mean playing under coach Kevvie, who although a seemingly very nice bloke is not an elite NRL coach. Compared to Robbo, who is a proven champion coach. Yes there is the extended family living in Brisbane angle, but I sense Sammy's ambitions are higher than a small town mentality.

Of course it's all just speculation from us on this forum, but it makes sense to me that there is no reason for Sammy to sign with us now at the minimum he can expect on the market, when if he happens to rise to the occasion in the finals the roosters will be forced to bump up their offer by at least several hundred K per year.

I dont know if Im included in your "so many people" so just to be clear Ive never mentioned what anyone is thinking other than what Im thinking.
Everyone no matter where they are from (media or chookpen) are entitled to an opinion.
If you think its a no contest that he's going to re-sign with the Chooks then good on you bit I think the Chooks will have to increase the offer by at least 150k per season for him to stay.
