Might be the smartest post ever made! But the dumbest Nah..No one will ever beat Big Mike.

Everyone is entitled to an opinion. That's mine: Walker is not a 1 Million a year player.
Someone express a different point of view and they get called a turncoat or dumb.
Smart people thought Luke Brooks was a Million a year player.

Contrary to what everyone thinks the Roosters do have a salary cap and throwing a million dollars at someone for his potential would not be a sound investment...In my Opinion!
I might be dumb, but one thing is certain, the great Man Mr. Politis is smarter than all of us and he knows what a player is worth.

The only possible circumstances we should accept losing Walker is if we have some intel that Mitch Moses (or even more fancifully, Cleary) would come here on 4-5 year deals.

The game is not producing quality young halves at the moment.

With all of the impending departures, we reportedly have $3.4m of cap space. Sam is reportedly on $500k. So in reality it’s not some huge gamble given the (lack of) alternatives.

And even just as an aside, can you honestly say you don’t enjoy watching Walker play? The game is an entertainment product. He’s very entertaining.

And if we don’t offer him $1m, pretty much every single club other than Penrith, Parra and Melbourne would do so immediately.

              Amen.

We're crazy if we don't re-sign him...now....before another club does.

At the rate players are walking out the door, into retirement, other codes etc...he'll be at training by himself looking around for someone to kick the ball to.
If he goes too, we'll slide down the ladder, nothing surer.

If he leaves, most of the switches in mrs bb's mind will will flick to 'off'.
She says she'll never go to footy again.
She's so much in love with the way he plays, kicks goals, and his quality as a young man, her devastation at his loss to our jersey/colours now would be immense.

It was very obvious tonight, when the game was (almost) gone, he started running and we made good/easy mtrs and the next play was also dominant. We r still a very dumb footy team, miles behind the Riff & Storm

But in front of everybody else.
A bronze medal at the Olympics if you like.
Silver is no good, means you've lost the GF.
How to get the gold...is a challenging path.
Re-signing Sam Walker would be a big step down that path.

Big call not extending Sammy's tenure at 1 mill.
If we don't, it will bite on the arse big time.

I'm confident Sammy will stay. But there is a question whether Sandon will long term.
The interesting play is re-signing Rodwell until 2028 although I've not seen anything official. Is Sandon just warming the seat for him? How long has Sandon signed for?
I have never seen Rodwell play but there are obviously huge raps on the kid. How big is he? Can/has he played 5/8? Does he have a long kicking game?
Will Sandon be our long term dummy half or is there someone better coming through?

Walker is the next Qld origin half. Pay him whatever it takes.

There's also Elliott who is a bigger body so there's some talent waiting in the wings. I would not be surprised to see Sandon trasition into a 9 at some stage in the future.

The Roosters so-called spine wage for 2024 is around 3.3 million: Tedesco 1.2 million; Keary 800k; Walker 500k; and Brandon Smith 800k.

2024: Manu: 750k; JWH: 600k; Keary: 800k; Suaalii: 750k; Sitli's 650 approximately 3.550 million of the cap salary available for 2025 with these departures

2025: May 500k (upgrade); Crichton 800k; Mark Nawaqanitawase 500k; Toops 400k; Sandon Smith 300 to 350k (upgrade); Chad Townsend 300k; approximately 2.3 mill of the approximate 3.550 mill available for 2025 is accounted for in new and re-signings and upgrades in 2025; there have been some other upgrades as well (Ethan King and Egan Butcher, for example).

So, 1.250 mill approximately to spend less other upgrades; say, $1 million is available.
+ 150k Cap increase (maybe taken up by ratchet clauses in contracts)—maybe 0 available?
+ 300k Veteran and Developed Player Allowance: Toops and Tedesco qualify for this at least 300k.

So approximately 1.3 million or so is available to re-sign Walker; Walker is on 500k now.

The salary cap increases by $150k each year up to 2027.

Clubs are required to spend at least 97.5% of their salary cap; most spend the maximum.

so it could be around 1.3 mill available to re-sign Walker -
