  • Pilot Medical Update: Round 22

The Sydney Roosters Squad has been assessed following the Club’s Round 22 match against the Dolphins.

Scans have confirmed Nat Butcher has sustained a rib cartilage injury on his left side, while Dom Young sustained a low grade hamstring strain to his right leg.

Both will work with the Club's rehabilitation team in an effort to be available for the Round 24 match against the Parramatta Eels at Allianz Stadium.

There were no other injury concerns for the other players that featured in the match.

I'm not sure if that report is a net positive or a net negative.
1985: 1 try vs Parramatta, 1 try vs Manly, 1 try vs Wests, 2 tries vs Souffs
1986: 2 tries vs Illawarra, 1 try vs Balmain, 2 tries vs Norths.

I think it's a positive that they'll play and we've got they bye which will hopefully provide a decent amount of time for recovery.

However, I'd obviously prefer that they weren't playing with injuries.

The hammie? I'm hoping Dom was taken off as a precaution, there's no tearing (just a light strain) and he doesn't miss any footy.

Not downplaying Butcher's importance (or the risk of lost balls...etc when somebody bangs a guy with broken ribs). However, IMO holes in our backline have been a massive killer in recent weeks. Moving towards the finals I want our whole backline to be fit + Jenko and Pauga to be available for cover (which... Pauga is not because he injured himself didn't he? Sigh).

Guessing we don't want Marky Mark playing this season but am still curious how ready he would be (answer: would probably struggle in NSW cup but I like being an optimist).

Rib cartilage is a horrible injury as there is no set method of recovery (apart from rest) and it just lingers for months. He will probably need to play needled for the rest of the season.

Yep. Been there, done that. I tried to play a couple of weeks after doing my rib cartilage (without a needle), & it was horrid.

Same mate, only round ball in my experience but was absolutely putrid.
