The Roosters NSW Cup team, three weeks after they were beaten 44-4 by the Western Suburbs Magpies at Wentworth Park, have spectacularly reversed that result at Wests’ home ground, Lidcombe Oval, defeating the Magpies 64-6.
It was the Roosters’ sixth win of the season and the second time in six days that the Roosters have scored 58 or more points in a match.
Despite the absence of Ethan King, Sandon Smith and Siua Wong, who were with the NRL squad in Perth, the Roosters ran in eleven tries, with 19-year-old winger Tyreece Tait scoring a double and taking his season tally to thirteen tries from nine Cup games.
Full back Callum Gromek and interchange hooker Tyler Moriaty also crossed for two tries each. Another 19-year-old, centre Robert Toia, continued his fine form in his comeback from a series of injuries, scoring his third try in as many games and again running for more metres than any other player on the field.
The Ipswich Jets have notched their fourth win of the season in the Queensland Cup with a 30-12 win over the Mackay Cutters at North Ipswich Reserve.
Whilst the Silktails Jersey Flegg Cup team have missed out narrowly on their first win of the season after overcoming a 28-0 deficit to lose 28-22 to the Manly-Warringah Sea Eagles in Lautoka, Fiji.
