Hall of Fame: How Gibson revolutionised rugby league

    He was the original Supercoach.

Jack Gibson changed the way rugby league was coached.

In this interview with award-winning broadcaster Graham McNeice from 1995, Gibson talks about his career, his undefeated season at the helm of the Roosters, the breakthrough title win with Parramatta, and the best players he coached.

The one and only big Jack. I've read nearly every tome and tidbit about the great man, but I still read through that long interview with Shadow. Thoroughly recommended reading for Easts people or any League disciple actually. The way he talks and thinks was so unique. Thanks King.

Seconded Coach. Thanks for the links King.

HoF inductees were thoroughly deserved. They just need to make Ron Coote an immortal and the class of 2024 would be perfect.

Very enjoyable! Most of this footage, including much of the GF is new to me, different from the previous footage of the GF from TV coverage.

Of great interest to me was at 6.30 - Bunny Reilly scoring a brilliant fair try against Manly at Brookvale, only to have it disallowed by the ref for a "double movement". You can see the ref's arm go up and Fairfax spewing at him. This happened right in front of me, sitting in the stand with my brother and dad. The try happened late in the game and would have won it for us, as we lost that day. It was actually round 12,1976, and Manly went on to win it that year. I remember even Rex Mossop the next day on controversy corner making a big deal of what an appalling blunder/travesty it was.

I was going to post something about the Bunny incident. It was the big talking point for about 3 days at my primary school. I thought the game was much closer toward the end of season because the loss had a huge effect on our finals chances.

I wonder if the ref was Gary Cook? He and Harrigan have always been my favourite refs. Probably Greg Hartley....

Re 1974 season, big Jack wasn't afraid to call out refs. After the major semi which we lost 19-17 to Canterbury, Jack said if Keith Page referees another Easts game, we'll never win another game. Laurie Bruyers was the ref in the GF, but we still lost the penaltycount 14-7. Some things never change lol...

He also called out Darcey Lawler, Hartley and Grasshopper Gomersall during his time.

I wonder if Robbo should call out Klein and Sutton. The video evidence of their hatred toward Easts is OVERWHELMING!!

God bless Moose Mossop as well. Although he was a mad Manly supporter, he never showed any bias toward them. Hope he is inducted into HoF next year.

Yes Bruce, it was indeed Gary Cook.

I agree he was a good egg, and this particular decision was just a poor call not bias. Although being at Brookvale probably didn't help.

And yes, Rex loved his eagles but was a fair and impartial commentator - something very rare these days. Warren Smith is my fave commentator these days.

How somebody decided the likes of Michael Ennis, whose voice reminds me of an angle grinder at 7 am on a Sunday morning, should be allowed to commentate eludes me.

Michael 'He's been huge' Ennis. He just repeats the same drivel over and over.

Big Jack was his mentor along with Ron Massey who was also Big Jacks mentor.
