I'd bet his right nut that it will be mid way through next year.
Does that mean you will become the Gelded Inflictor if he doesn't?

Talk of leaving money aside for Manu if by chance he returns to the NRL mid season or so in 2025 has a an impact of how much of the remaining cap they will have to spend

Players Departing - Approximately 3.7 to 4 Mill

      Manu - 800k
      Suaalii - 750 k
      Keary - 800k
      JWH - 600 to 800k
      Jennings 180 k
      Sitili - 600 to 700k

      Upgrades - approx 400k increase

      Colins (2028) - 800k
      May(2026) - 500k

      New and re-signings - 1.75 mill to 1.85 mill

      Mark N - 450K (2026)
      Townsend - 300k (2025)
      Crichton - 800k (2026)
      *Toops - 400 to 500k (2026)

      * offset by the 200k Long Serving Player allowance

Players off contract and able to negotiate with other clubs signed to in brackets

      Leniu (2025) - 525k
      Walker (2025) - 500k
      Watson (2025) - 300k
      Egan Butcher (2025) - 300k
      Toia (2025) - 180k
      Moriarty(2025) - 180k

      Dockar -Clay (2024) - 180k
      *Alex Young (2024) - 130k

Townsend could potentially be the signing of the decade at that price.

Maybe I'm way off here but I don't think we've made any moves in the market right now because there just isn't anyone really available unless they're getting out of contracts early or whatever to make the move. According to Zerotackle if we need a centre and a half the options are pretty slim with the best centre option probably being Tesi Niu whilst the only halves available are reserve graders really.

I think the Roosters will hope that Billy Smith and a couple of juniors can compete for the centre spots and then one of Smith/Townsend will play with Walker in the halves next season (I'd say Townsend gets the nod)

Exciting to think of "What if" for the 2026 season though, a few names coming off contract are Kotoni Staggs, Bronson Xerri, Selwyn Cobbo, Cherry-Evans, Ben Hunt, Adam Reynolds and Toby Sexton. If next year is the year to move Teddy on there are good options in the market available as well with Papenhuyzen, Walsh, Laurie and Gutho all available for 2026. My opinion? We're going to hit hard in the market in 2026.

For 2025 and beyond Spencer allready big upgrade; and walker and Watson are musts and expecting a big upgrade
teddy also off contract for end of 2025
toia should get one providing he stays fit
Egan butch might be looking elsewhere for more game time in 2026
can’t imagine cheese re signing past 2025 unless a massive improvement

Part of the story is that guys like Watson, Walker, May, Crichton and Leniu are hitting purple patches. Whereas last year some were sitting at a crossroad (including Leniu - who played about 10 minutes of the GF and had a lot of doubters on here - now he's gonna be one of our key weapons during the finals).

IMO we are managed by long-term thinkers who would be planning our cap 10+ years in advance. A million bucks is still almost 10% of our cap space and we have a few big decisions to make, including about the future of current players... including Young, Mark N, Smith and Pauga. Yes Manu and Sua'ali'i will be gone but as Treebeard would say... we must not be hasty.
We need to be hasty, very hasty...and get our act together and sign Walker.

Ahh yeah got it now. Are you sure he still has the rig intact to bet with though?

It surely couldn’t be because no room thinking we have a quality list of backs. We now have no backup FB, Toops ageing, Smith will never play, Toia who knows after his injuries, Murphy will never be an NRL player. We have Marky Mark & not much else apart from kids to come through.
With JWH,Manu,JS,Keary,Sitilli going I would have thought we had cap space even though Walker,Lenui get upgrades.
Not saying Holmes should be with us, but he’s a certain starter, can play FB & kick. I honestly believe there must be a major signing as the team next year is at best 4-8th position & no real threat.
Lewis Murphy can be an NRL player - been unlucky injury wise - ACL then a couple of hammies and the scaphoid fracture - When Dom Young signed a 3 year min contract deal with the Knights at 18 - apart from who none said he would make it either - only been playing league just on 2 years - 1 Super League Appearance.

58 tries in 67 NRL games later- people or at least some know he's the real deal and a NRL player - just turned 23 - best footy still in front of him.
