but neither of our boys will be playing first grade rugby league.
I hate to type cast but so many first grade players love the bags

I think the real deep philosophical question is why???

There are so many levels to that question

From merely drunk and lowering the threshold for inhibitions …….
to more habitual use for reasons like childhood trauma, nihilism and defiance disorders. These are a dime a dozen in footy teams.

It’s a psychological paradise for shrinks.
Look no further than Joey to determine that the most unhinged are often the best players.
It’s up to great coaches to nurse them through until their use by date expires, clubs ditch them and then the player has to take personal responsibility that has been often deferred for years.

In saying all that I marvel at Cronk, Slater and Williams who kept there shit for so long at the top level.

I personally admire Angus Crichton enormously for facing his bipolar diagnosis head on and playing the best footy of his career.
What a legend. The club should be so proud of this bloke
It goes well beyond footy players. I can't recall many parties or events I've been to in the last 25 years where it wasn't present.

Born and bred in the eastern suburbs.

      I aree with that.
Im one of the lucky ones who had 2 loving supportive parents who never gave up on me.
Most addicts I met in my day came from broken families/home most of the boys I hung out with that I thought were cool didnt even know their dads.

I was brought up by 2 very straight catholic loving parents who never touched drugs or had anything to do them. In their day there were no drugs. My older brother & 2 sisters never touched drugs but I was different, I had confidence issues, I hated myself & met young guys that I thought were cool who took drugs.
My parents did everything in their power to help me but I didnt want their help.
Did I learn a hard lesson?
        Yes
Did I tell my 2 kids not to take drugs?
        Of course I did
Did they experiment with certain party drugs?
        Of course they did
Its the childs personality & friends they meet not the parents that are responsible if kids dabble in drugs.
95% of people who dabble in drugs do not go onto being fully blown addicts like I did.
95% of people who drink alcohol dont go on to become alcoholics.
Mate my old man wouldn't even know what drugs look like. I never got on the H or meth but I've done most other stuff. The world is changing too. Shrooms and Ketamine are now medicines. I get my cannabis from my doctor. I reckon cocaine is the cool drug amongst young people. I used to do coke and still sleep and get up in the morning.

I just want to add my days of drug addiction were before my kids were born.
Drug addiction & taking drugs does not discriminate, it can affect any family & its very complex why people take drugs.
In todays society drugs are so much more widely available & many more people take party drugs (coke, ice & MDMA) then what they did in my day.
            Why?
Well like I said its complex.
Some do it to to fit in some do it because of self esteem issues some do it because of peer pressure some do it because of trauma in their lives some do it because they have been abused some do it just to get high & also not everyone likes alcohol.
Many wont agree with this but drugs in another 50 years will be legal because people want to get away from reality & the war on drugs doesnt work.
When the people who are in their 20's now are in charge they will take over the drug trade taking it out of the hands of bikie gangs & organised crime & they will tax people, governments will make a lot of money instead of wasting money on law enforcement & never getting on top of it.
Drugs are part of the human race so at the end of the day it will be up to the individual if thy want to take drugs.
And I believe even when its all legal only a small majority of society will abuse it just like with alcohol now.

                    Haha.

I hate people who take drugs...like Police, security guards etc.

They should bloody well get their own!

Nothing is clear, but the BT in question plays for a club, that a former roosters player who scored a try in our 2000 GF loss, now has a a major role in.
