It goes well beyond footy players. I can't recall many parties or events I've been to in the last 25 years where it wasn't present.

I've never used it but my reckoning is that lots of them are addicted to winning games and the buzz of being a hero.

When things don't go their way, I reckon a lot of the boys are emotionally immature brats who look for a substance that'll give them that winning feeling (even when they're shyte) rather than doubling down on their training.

Cam Smith is a notoriously clean, consistent and intelligent player (I dare say Cronk's in that category too). IMO such players don't need the drugs because they're wired differently. Instead of sooking and looking for a cheap buzz, they deal with shyte maturely and channel those losses into their next win. They understand the long game like the children of our game don't!

I was brought up by 2 very straight catholic loving parents who never touched drugs or had anything to do them. In their day there were no drugs. My older brother & 2 sisters never touched drugs but I was different, I had confidence issues, I hated myself & met young guys that I thought were cool who took drugs.
My parents did everything in their power to help me but I didnt want their help.
Did I learn a hard lesson?
Yes
Did I tell my 2 kids not to take drugs?
Of course I did
Did they experiment with certain party drugs?
Of course they did
Its the childs personality & friends they meet not the parents that are responsible if kids dabble in drugs.
95% of people who dabble in drugs do not go onto being fully blown addicts like I did.
95% of people who drink alcohol dont go on to become alcoholics.

If the parents are drug and alcohol dependent, then their children are more likely to start using drugs and consuming alcohol at a younger age and become addicted than those from homes without substance abuse.

Poor parenting doesn't mean that their children will turn to drugs and or alcohol and become addicted to either or both.

Good parenting doesn't mean the children won't become drug and alcohol dependant and addicted to either or both.

Peer pressure, a person's social and economic background, bad influences (people they hang around with), traumatic experience and even the times are major contributors—times as an example, the 1960's. Turn on, tune in, drop out.

I ask you that because even though its legal alcohol is the biggest contributor to anti social behavior. It destroys some peoples lives & is also considered a drug.

I agree Mickie. Alcohol is the worst drug of them all imo.
I don’t go to many places where drunk people hang out except for the occasional over the top pisshead at the footy.

Even if I go to the club, it’s trivia night only and if people get on the turps, your team isn’t going to go too well. We win quite a bit! Schnitties and Coke (soft drink) for me thanks.

I don’t doubt what you are saying about the G n R concert however we saw them in Dubai and although nowhere is without influence, you’d be a pretty brave or desperate soul to risk it in public there.

I believe my kids have been raised well and have never been exposed to that sort of environment in the home which make me confident in the example we have set for them. I know this true as my eldest just turned 18 and he even turned down the opportunity to have a beer to celebrate.

Your life story is pretty cool but hopefully I’m setting my kids on a different path. I’ve been too hard on them not to. I’d be wrecked if the efforts I’ve put in failed but at the same time it’s their life and their choice and they will make me proud no matter what. My way doesn’t have to be their way but I hope the examples I have set rub off on them just a bit.

I hope not but I reckon there’s possibly some merit in the action. Why play the rest of the season when your season has been shit and already over anyway? Good way to get an extended break knowing that you will get in trouble but not that much trouble.
