Imo this has to be the year because the window will slam shut when Manu, JWH, Keary, Suaalii, & Toupanoua leave.

If Robbo can't win it with them this year he definitely won't with a weaker team moving forward.

Joey Manu the only miss but that was only he wanted a new challenge

Egan off contract but he can go and might be best for his won career as he won’t play much 1st grade next year either

Yes you're right. Can't replace JWH, Kez and Joey in a quick fix, it will take time. But let's enjoy this year, in it up to our eyeballs.

I could see Walker bailing on us.

Why would he? It wouldn't be for the money- he will be set for life if he stays a Rooster. In wouldn't be to play finals footy. It wouldn't be to play rep footy.

Im not saying it can't happen- i never thought i would see SBW or Cooper Cronk winning premierships as Roosters-anything can happen. It's just there is no upside for him leaving- he he everything he needs right in front of him.

At 22 years he has already played 75 games. He has skills that you cant teach....and is learning when to use them and when not to. Sign him up 5 years minimum!

I would not be surprised if Sam Walker chose to delay signing and explored the market, a strategy that many players are increasingly adopting. Hard for the average punter to comprehend players "looking after their future" when they would be retired from playing if able to continue playing in their early 30's and have 20 odd years or more they could work in another job for.

It's not the US, of course, when players can really set themselves up and many generations of their family members in the future to come on what they can earn, especially when they reach free agency.

Look at Shohei Ohtani, who signed a 10-year, $70 million USD a season deal with the LA Dodgers—throw in endorsements, and what not he could earn over 1 billion USD during that period.

We have both these players very cheap for 2024 and 25. Presume big upgrades for 26 and 27
many wanted Watson gone after he missed all of 2023 but end of 2022 uou could see the energy he bought to the team
easily outplayed b smith who is on a much higher wage

Imagine if Walker was playing for Real Madrid or Man City.

Interesting that only 2 players, Gus and Sam went w Nick and Robbo to watch Mark play on Sunday. Reading between the lines, maybe he is sufficiently invested in the team going forward and well connected to Robbo and Nick, he is more likely going to ultimately stay...here's hoping....

I think Sammy loves the Roosters however he want's us to match the highest current bidder which isn't going to happen until he plays like a $1.3 million player against the Storm, Panthers or whoever we play in the Qualifying Final and hopefully the GF.

If he's wearing a ring in November, he gets the money. Treat him like a blond twat marrying a demented billionaire.

I dont think its so much Sammy but I think its his dad Ben & his 2 uncles Shane & Chris.
I think Ben is going to try & play the Roosters & advice his son to leave if the Broncos offer is better.
If his dad & uncles were happy with the supposed 1.8M for 2 seasons that the Roosters have offered Sam would have signed already.
Ben, Shane & Chris all played NRL for many different NRL clubs so that tells me they were prepared to play for any club that payed the highest price, I believe their philosophy is to make as much money as you can & hopefully win a comp or 2 but money is number 1.
Would they like Sammy to win a comp with the Chooks & stay at the Chooks I would say yes but only if it means Sam is earing at least 1.2M a season for season 2026 & 2027.
