Too young to have seen Coote, and you don’t get much of a feel by watching clips, so can only go on the word of those who did, sounds deserving.
a lot of the press and past players talk about all the work he has done off the field which is great, but not really part of the criteria?
so to those who did see him, is he more deserving as a player than Kenny or sterling?
Being an immortal now, is he in the top 5 roosters of all time to have played for us?
interesting to hear some of the thoughts of those who are old enough to remember him in his playing days.

I remember when I was young watching him at the old Sports ground. I was only 8 to 13 in those years so running for the corner posts patting the players on their back as they were leaving the ground & playing on the ground after the game finished was more of a memory.
For me at the time Artie had a huge profile so he was the main man at the time but Fairfax & Schuburt used to get heaps of attention also because they used to score tries & they both had long hair.
Because I was a halfback I used to like Johhny Mayes so I would watch him.
For me Brass, Bunny, Mark Harris, Peard, Mullins, Walters & Jim Porter were all as known & as good as Coote. Im not saying Coote doesnt deserve to be an immortal but he didnt really stand out to me.
Artie, Mayes, Fairfax & Schuburt were the ones that stood out to me.

I think the story was that Ron wanted to play juniors for Easts like his dad but residency rules prevented him from doing so - he was literally living across the road from the junior boundary.

Why only one though - Ken Irvine should be an immortal as well.

Very happy to see the NRL do the right thing and give the older generation the nod while they're still around to soak in the accolades. Could tell how much it meant to him. Amazing.
148 games for Souths (1964-1971) - 5 Grand Finals - 3 wins and 2 losses
109 games for Easts (1972-1978) - 3 Grand Finals - 2 wins and 1 loss
