  • Sydney Roosters Junior Reps 2025

A couple of interesting articles - the first time this has happened as they usually have open trials - apart for the Women's Lisa Fiaola Cup Under 17's there will no open trials for the Sydney Roosters Junior Rep Squads for 2025 squads - Harold Matthews , SG Ball and Tarsha Gale Cup.

I gather invitations will be sent out to selected players only

Junior Representative Trials for Harold Matthews and SG Ball in 2024/25

The Sydney Roosters would like to inform all players, parents, and supporters that there will be no junior representative trials held this season for the Sydney Roosters Harold Matthews and SG Ball teams.

This decision was made after careful consideration and planning for the upcoming season. We understand that this news may be disappointing for many aspiring players.

Our focus remains on fostering the development of young talent within our pathways program, and we are committed to continuing to support and nurture our junior players.

We encourage all players to continue working hard and stay involved in their local clubs, as there will be future opportunities to join the Sydney Roosters junior representative teams.

We appreciate your understanding and ongoing support of the Sydney Roosters.

Junior Representative Trials for Tarsha Gale and Lisa Fiaola in 2024/25

The Sydney Roosters are excited to announce that the Lisa Fiaola Cup trials will be held on Wednesday, 18th September 2024.

This is a fantastic opportunity for talented young players to showcase their skills and potentially join the Roosters Female Junior Representative Pathways.

Please note that further details of the Lisa Fiaola trials will be shared directly with successful applicants closer to the trial date.

Unfortunately, there will be no open trials for the Tarsha Gale Cup in 2024. Instead, invitations will be sent to selected players in late September.

We thank all players for their interest and look forward to the 2024/25 Junior Rep Season.

Seems a rather odd decision, from the outside looking in. I appreciate it may be rare but every now and then, you do read about some kid that rocks up to the open trials and kills it. Was SKD one of those?

So no new local juniors for the upcoming season. The young aspiring kids must be disappointed. Strange decision.

Central Coast Roosters will be fielding a SG Ball Cup side in 2026 - Hopefully they will also field a Central Coast Roosters Tarsha Gale Under 19's side as well - Turning away a lot of players by having only one side in Tarsha Gale Cup (Sydney Roosters)- Never know what you miss out on.

As part of the renewed agreement between Sydney Roosters and Rugby League Central Coast, SG Ball is coming back to the Coast.
For 2025, an U19s Development Squad will be chosen from the recent Central Coast Roosters trials with a view to be SG Ball competition ready post 2025.
The program will include elite training and development games for the 2025 squad.

Central Coast Roosters Junior Reps 2025
        • Andrew Johns Cup (Under 16's)
        • Lisa Fiaola Cup ( Under 17's)
        • Harold Matthews Cup ( Under 17's)
        • Laurie Daley Cup ( Under 18's)

Ah the old days of the open trials - players with dreams that were often shattered in seconds - had a mate who tried out for Wests in the early 90's - ran the ball up and was cleaned up by David Gillespie. We said to him afterwards the last player you would want to run the ball up against was David Gillespie - should have picked out say Jason Taylor instead who was also playing in the opposition that day.

Strange call that one. It's not like they are obliged to take anyone from the trials anyway but it gives you a chance to spot a diamond in the rough as others have pointed out. I went to an open trial at Penrith in the late 80's. There was something like 150 guys there and from memory they took 2 players from these trials and added them to their training squad for Under 21's

I remember a time not far distant, that any mention of Central Coast Roosters was met with withering snake eyed glare.

Thanks for posting. Looks like the boys are back at ES Marks? Just wanting to use the athletics track or is there another reason?

Thanks Gaz. Sam Walker looks a bit ahead of schedule than I expected.

Have you a list of these - The only ones I could find are the Central Coast Roosters ones - Andrew Johns Cup/ Lisa Fiaola Cup/ Harold Matthews Cup/Laurie Daley Cup and a SG Ball Development Squad for entry of a Central Coast Roosters SG Ball side in that comp in 2026.

Our Junior rep squads weren't announced until 30th Jan last year, likely going to be the same this year.

Also got to keep in mind he's only 17 doing his HSC up at Ipswich this year so very well may stay up there to finish his schooling.
