    Boyd to Man..

    Jared Coote
    Wednesday 30 May 2012 4:46 PM

Just shy of his 20th birthday, and already Roosters star Boyd Cordner has cemented himself as a regular first grade player.

A pretty impressive achievement especially for a forward.

Not only is Cordner making the team sheet every week but he is excelling.

Against the Bulldogs on Monday night Cordner made the most running metres (120) most hit-ups (15) and was the second top tackler for the Tricolours.

"It wasn't the result we wanted on Monday but I was pretty happy with my performance," Cordner said.

"I am getting more confident each week and I think my hard work is paying off."

Still Cordner says he is working hard to ensure he takes his game to the next level.

"I'm still learning how to play first grade and getting used to it but the last few weeks I have really been feeling more comfortable," Cordner said.

"I am working really hard on improving on my skills in attack so I can add a few options to my game."

"In defence I'm working really hard to ensure I don't miss any tackles because there are some really big boys out there so I need to make sure I am aiming up for the entire match."

When talk moves from his individual performance to the team's efforts Cordner shows the optimism that refuses to leave the corridors at Roosters HQ.

"The last few weeks have been really frustrating because every game we have been it we have had a chance to win," Cordner said.

"Instead of losing these matches over the past month we could have won most of them and been right up there."

"The best part is we are all still really confident and as Brian keeps telling us we are not far from turning it all around."

As for finally leaving his teens next week.

    "I'm starting to get old aren't I"

    Maybe at the Roosters.
There have been massive wraps on this kid for about 4 years now..He is starting to become the player the "good judges" said he'd be..

While i'd love to see us be a chance of winning the comp this year,we aren't..If we can scrape into the 8 or thereabouts, then i think that is a pass mark for the side..

These kids may be frustrating the shit out of us ATM,but i see a bright future..

As my old man always told me,"Son,you can't wait any faster"..

Boyd looks the goods..Let's hope he achieves greatness, for & at,the club..

He is getting better and better every week and one of many thriving under Smith. We are building to something, can't wait for next year.

    Chook.

Often in the last 6 or so weeks I've seen some big mofo chase down an attacker or slide and cover that 1/2 break and it's always Boymand.

Fast becoming my favorite player, he just does the little things others don't. Best thing is he has a bit of skill too, and is tough and fast for his size.

He's so Brad Clyde it isn't funny.

      And he plays for Easts.

I get the feeling he has that competitive carnt streak in him, that will make us feared again.

      How good were those days.

Fearing the coqq, it was so good to be so hated cos of fear.

I really hope that the pack at least are becoming a pack to fear. Not yet but the signs are all coming together IMO.

Let me say firstly I really rate this guy & like him but Im not sure if he is fully ready for FG. He isnt far off.

From watching him against the Dogs I thought he looked great. I personally would not have interchanged him because I think he has the motor & the age to play 80 minutes, but in saying that I can see the coaching staff dont want to burn him out at a young age playing FG.

With another 5 to 7 kg's of muscle which he will put on over the course of his career he will be our long term lock. Playing 80 minutes of quality football, not every week but most weeks.

        He has to play lock.

The skill & faith in his ability that he showed in the $ouFF$ game at the death gave us a glimpse of what the future holds for him..

If Boyd can achieve what Clyde did then the club is in for some pretty exciting times..

Bring back the fear..& the hate..

          Go Easts..

There is one thing about Boyd that sticks out the most.....

No matter the size of the opposition, he will do what ever he can to Bring The Pain !!

Backwards is right, he has that competetive streak, he wants to win and he will hurt who ever he has to on the opposition to get the win !!!!

Didn't he extend for just one more season?

I hope we tie him up early next year very long term.

              Definite future captain.

Its a shame that a kid that is 19 years old is putting efforts in that some of the other guys should be at least matching statistically. I'm real happy for Boyd i hope he sticks around and doesn't get disillusioned by the results and can continue to be apart of the club for a long while yet.

Just hope Tinkler does not get him back to DrugCastle.

A good mix of skill and mongrel.
This kid will wear the Green and Gold.
And he is ours, hopefully for the rest of his playing career!

                            From an article earlier in the year to ease that paranoia about losing him;

Even the nickname "Manchild" handed to him by Roosters team-mates, speaks of Boyd's beyond-his-years maturity - a trait developed through a childhood that was accelerated by family tradgedy.

Roosters assistant coach Craig Fitzgibbon said of Cordner recently "The thing I see with Boyd is whenever there is a bit of a lackadaisical attitude at training or the session seems to be going down that path, he's the one that snaps it back into gear.....and he's only 19".

And that's why many regard Cordner as a future club captain.

But he knows that is a long way off. He also knows that he wants to be a Rooster for life. "When I come off contract at the end of next year I'll only be 21" Cordner says.

I'd love to be like Ricko and Mini who played their whole careers at the club and are Roosters legends.

"I guess it's not traditional in this day and age, but the club have really stuck by me to allow me to get to where I am and I'd love to stick by the club....to stay here my whole career".
