  • Rugby league is dead

When was the last time a comp was close?

    Look at our back2back titles

    2019

    1. Storm 42
    2. Easts 36
    3. Souffs 34
    4. Canberra 34

Any one of those top 4 were a good chance anyone.

    2018

    1.Easts 34
    2. Storm 34
    3. Souffs 34
    4. Sharks 34

Again a bees dick splits them all anyone of them could win it.

    2020. The injury curse begins

    1. Riff 37
    2. Storm 32
    3. Eels 30
    4. Easts 28 Weak comp who here apart from riff wins it a Cameron Smith inspired Storm ambushed them.

21/22/23 2 horse race Souffs in 21 were a very good side from memory they won QF vs riff but lost the GF A piss weak effort from the Eels in 22 and the broncos last season this the 6 Again era and the refs ruining games there hasn’t been a close comp since our wins.

I hate what has become of this game it’s a train wreck.

Gotta give credit to the panthers though, they have had numerous top players leave the club after each year, and yet look like playing their 5th grand final in a row.

API, kikau, burton, chrichton, leniu, capewell, with plenty of decent backups leaving the club too.

Yes rugby league is dieing. If the surrender tackle the riff did in the first 25 minute continues it will be touch football. Thats how and what they did to win the game.
elbows knees and get up before the tackle is complete. Speed speed speed.
      devestating to us
thats all they had is quick play the balls and full field shifts.
      1911 1912 1913 1923 1935 1936 1937 1940 1945 1974 1975 2002 2013 2018 2019 2020

All it took from the Panthers was to realise the gold mine of talent they are sitting on. Once Gus created the pathways they now have an unlimited supply of local talent

what do they say - rugby league is dead; long live rugby league.
league isn't dead. it evolves. yeah, credit to the panthers - they've been magnificent. it's up to the other clubs to rise to that standard

So many times they just got up quickly and rolled the ball without even attempting to play it with the foot, and had 4-5 players in motion to totally destabilise our defense. A well executed plan, if only we did the same .

The Riff are the Man City of the league instead of having all the money in the world they have the supply of junior talent compared to us how can you match that we have what 1-2 junior catchments how the hell do you compete with the massive talent pool the Riff can pick from year after year?

Panthers are a powerhouse this dynasty doesn’t look like letting up and good for them I don’t have my nose out of joint about that it’s a credit to them, but how do you compete with that? It’s like the 90’s Broncos having the entire state to themselves of junior talent to pick from, since the introduction of more QLD teams plus Melbourne the dominance ended.

This era of 6Again ended ours and Melbournes dominance of trading comps wasn’t the entire idea of this 6Again meant to speed up the game and improve the spectacle make it so that the comp is closer (it’s never been more one sided)It’s been a 2 horse race since then every year, what team outside Melbourne who have finally been the first team to catch up to the riff (or has it been the loss of talent as a previous poster mentioned ?)

Am I missing something here? They have the biggest supply to pick from or have I completely missed the mark?

If someone could explain this it would be much appreciated.

Parramatta have over 20 junior clubs and I’d assume wests tigers have even more, just need to know how to identify and keep the talent, Penrith have always had them, but it took Gus to bring out the best in them

Ok so other clubs have big catchments also probably throw in the Illawarra region for St Merge. More a credit to what they’re doing right fair enough, gee whiz we haven’t adapted well to this era of league the 12 ACL’s in that time don’t help but we just haven’t been up to par I’m not sure how we adapt to it.

We have much to learn hard to point the finger on exactly what the issue is within our club so to speak we haven’t been a threat for a long time now. Seem to be somewhere in the middle it’s true that winning starts in the front office somethings a miss.

We’re just not up to it the Riff are the gold standard and I don’t see it letting up anytime soon. Back to the drawing board. Hopefully we bounce back next week.

I think I read a headline about record crowds at NRL games this season. Our club broke a membership record this year too.

No matter how bad it gets I’ll always support our club.

Plenty of us do and will always show up.
But there are a lot of bandwagon fans who only turn up or buy jerseys during the good times.
Not just us but with all clubs, if we ever got as bad as the Tigers which I never see happening our crowds would disappear.

We have and will continue to be a top 8 side without winning a premiership until something changes.
I don’t know what the answer is but we are a step down from the Panthers and Storm, is it attitude, poor discipline, not adjusting to what wins games now or are we a team of stars instead of a star team.

I'll always love and support the greatest game of all and the greatest team in the history of world sports, Easts, as well.

We do very well considering our obvious geographical disadvantages.

Penrith have always been sitting on a goldmine with their juniors, but that dictum has been repeated for decades.

The same can be said for

                            St George Illawarra
                            Newcastle
                            Parramatta?
                            Wests
                            Gold Coast
                            BRISBANE- what's their excuse
                            North Queensland

I'd imagine above juniors would equal or dwarf Riffs.

Honestly Easts and Melbourne with our minuscule juniors are the anomalies.

Roosters do have the Central Coast with that deal extended for another 5 years at least - over 7000 junior players

Wests Tigers junior numbers will top Penrith's in the years to come with those new and planned new suburbs
