  • Doublespeak and gaslighting from the NRL - the forward pass call

In his weekly football briefing Annesley conceded the pass wasn’t obviously forward from the broadcast view, but stressed the referee was in a better position to make the call.

“I have lost count of the number of times this year that I have been asked about passes whether they are forward or back,” Annesley said.

“I think that particular decision when you look at it on the broadcast view it is not clearly a forward pass.

In fact looking form a broadcast perspective you could argue that it looks like it is an OK pass.

“But the referee is right there. He makes an instinctive judgment based on what he sees. He reacts immediately. He’s in a good position.”

So basically, if Klein says black is white and up is down, he is right. Ignore your own perception.

I just hope he doesn't get our next game.

The pass was fine and the score would have been 24-16 and who knows what could have happened after that. - Did he say anything about the Manly Try - Bullimore try

IMO it's likely he's defended him in the media (i.e. taken the stance that he won't discuss forward passes with the public based on video footage) and has then said 'mate that was a barry crocker!!!! I've defended you but that's the kinda shyte we wanna avoid!!!'

That said, Anusley was on a poddie recently (James Graham's I think?) and said something along the lines of 'I have very little contact with the refs as I'm Head of Football Elite Competitions'.

The more I listened to the poddie, the more I realised he's just a Liberal Party hack from a Tory family who's been called upon by the NRL as a job for the boys. That is, he's just a talking head. A rather ugly, monosyllabic one at that. There's no obvious reason why he does regular speeches about the refs given his role is not as 'head ref', he's just a random, over-classified 'manager of everything' with no specific duties. I suspect he simply comments on reffing because he likes having a public voice and would otherwise be sitting around twiddling his thumbs.

Personally if I was a ref, I'd probably despise having some overpaid Liberal Party hack (who failed at politics, failed at managing an NRL club and continues to get parachuted into $$$ 'management' roles with no real duties / KPIs) talking smack about reffing. The guy's a farkin' muppet...

          Is Klein gay?
He looks like he’s gay based on his short to leg ratio.

And btw, I love gay people so don’t say that I’m a hater.
          Im not.

But Klein is definitely a rooster hater.
In fact, most referees post super league hate us.
The penalty ratios, the crap calls in big games
And dont even go there with the Crooked competition we lost to the dragons based on Tony “ twinky “ Archer
          barbarian ......arrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrgh!!!!!!!

The NRL story re the forward pass and any of its media partners journalist negative stories is purely finding ways to trigger dopamine for a profit. It informs and provokes to generate click$ by telling the haters how right they are about everything.

Graham Annesley used to be willing to call it as he see’s it but these days it’s all about damage control for him.

So blatantly not a forward pass, we all understand the refs are making instinctive judgement calls but it was just objectively wrong in this instance. Say it and move on.

Klein is their number 1 ref, already penciled in for the Grand Final I guess we shouldn’t be surprised at the half arsed response from HQ.

We didn't win a penalty count between round 5 and round 27. That itself needs an investigation.

Sure Klein was close to it, but Teddy was closer. He said it was not forward. Toops also looked like he disagreed with the call.

                      Seems to be.
Time to treat with utter contempt...him, and any other refs doing the same things to us.
Might as well include those who employ him and any others.

I thought it was a line ball & should have been play on.

I think Anusilly is right and Klein called it instinctively. Of course his first instinct is to cheat and second to game manage.

The cnut instinctively did not want to see us back in with a winning chance so he called a pass that was backwards forward

Can someone please tell me what time in the game it happened? I was not able to watch the game at the time, and have not had a chance to watch the whole replay since. Naturally, this incident is conveniently missing from both the NRL's Highlights and Extended Highlights packages.
