    • Ticket, how did the storm go in bellamys 2nd & 3rd year in charge? (when slater, smith were hardly known stars). Compare that to how we are going in smiths second and third years.

I love my 'kid' regardless! Following the Roosters makes me happy. Hearing the Chookpen chanting in full voice makes me happy. Meeting amazing & like minded people through the fan club makes me happy. Knowing I'll be home in 2 weeks for a game makes me happy. What makes you happy Ray?

The big 3 were not established players they were nobodies that Craig Bellamy developed & with that he has built a culture that those guys flurish under. The big 3 are not behind the culture Bellamy is.

The guys family lives in Brisbane he dedicates his life to the Storm. More than likely right now he is working on things for this weekends game that he will desperately want to win SOO stars or not.
Mickey, first of all I am not saying Bellamy is not a good coach, I am saying he is yet to prove he is a great coach.

In 2003 and 2004 they made the bottom half of the eight (6th or so). Smith made his Origin debut in 2003 and Smith and Slater both played all three games in 2004. When Bellamy took over they had been out of the eight for 2 years but had made the eight the few years before that, including winning the comp in 1999. He was successful but it was not exactly a rags to riches story. It is well documented that by the time they won the comp they were systematically rorting the cap.

I know Bellamy works hard and sacrifices personally for his team - I could name 15 other head coaches who do the same.

He still has plenty to prove - I reckon he's a fair chance of winning it this year - but IMO his Storm record remains tainted by systemic cheating.

But, as you point out, these things are opinions, we've all got 'em and I respect yours.

                In the first 3 years (2003-2005) Melbourne came 5th, 6th, 6th.
Along with Smith and Slater the team also had the likes of Scott Hill, Robbie Kearns, Matt King, Matt Geyer, Dallas Johnson, Stephen Kearney, Rodney Howe, Ryan Hoffman and Marcus Bai. All part of the Storm's team of the decade. Plus Matt Orford and Robbie Ross.

I suppose all Smithy has got in his first three years is a grand final appearance with a bunch of kids.

So one coach took an easy beat team immediately to 5th, then 6th and then 6th. The other one takes them to a gf in his first year then rubbish second year and looking like rubbish again in the third year.

Yet you still want to pretend that smith is good.

A good coach is meant to improve the team and players the longer he is there. A good coach is meant to bring consistent disciplined performances. Not an instant honeymoon year success then sliding back down to rubbish.

Under your theory, Freddy is therefore a top coach as well basically.

Yes he is a great coach.
Hes the second best coach in the game.

You did ask to compare the two.

Smithy got us to a GF from a wooden spoon the previous year. He then had a write-off year because of the turmoil as a result of Myles, Watts and Carney. Do you blame him for last year? This year we are stuck with Anasta at 5/8. I believe you have said that without him we would be higher on the ladder. So IF Smithy can't drop him, do you blame him or higher powers for where we are on the ladder this year? I'm not saying we will make the 8 but the year has a long way to go and we are playing better than a few teams above us. In 2010 we did start improving from round 16 so we are in a similar position.

BTW if you think Smith, Slater, Hill, Kearns, King, Geyer, Johnson, Kearney, Howe, Hoffman, Bai, Orford and Ross are a bunch of easy beats then I'm sorry to say but you are a very bad judge of players.

                            • Here comes the rubbish excuses for smith.

                              It's all carneys fault.

                              It's now all anastas fault.

Next year it will be another persons fault.

It's never his fault, he's just the coach.

Look at the comp table bavk then and you will see that the storm were easy beats when Bellamy took them over. They were terrible. He not only turned them around straight away but he kept them up in the top part of the ladder each year basically. The opposite to smith.

                              • If smith is really good, if he was the one that gets the credit for getting us to the gf, if he's that good - then he would have kept us in the 8 last year and we'd make the 8 this year. It doesn't matter about anything else.

That's if he is any good.
