My love for this team desperately wants them to prove my brain wrong and the first time in a long time knock off either the Storm or Panthers in a consequential game, realistically I have serious doubts whether this team has the football resilience to stand up to the grit of the Storm.
Thinking might keep my expectation low. If we win that's a massive bonus but we lose well I wasn't over pumped for a win so less height to fall from.
Great thread contributions guys, and great starter Thirteen. This is the most positive I've seen the Pen going into a big game, and it matters. Positive energy from everyone in the club including supporters counts.
My most important game of the year is the good ol Prelim final. Death or Glory. We've ticked the first box and got here. Probably in better shape in terms of personnel than in previous finals campaigns I can recall. No excuses. The only advantage Storm have is they are fresh and rested. Who cares..it's a mental game now. We know we are good enough, time to show we deserve to be in the grand final.
Hard to believe we are drawing close to the Easts careers of JWH and Luke Keary. It just won't be the same without them. Jared is getting all the plaudits the great man deserves. Luke has played nearly every game for the past 3 years despite pundits writing him off. So underrated by some, the real organiser of this team. And of course Joey Manu has grown up here and been an outstanding player in his own right. Lets do all we can to send these guys out as winners.
Tactically they will be dangerous with the short attacking kick, all their spine are capable of executing. We need to play with controlled aggression and belief, leave nothing in the tank. Robbo needs to kick this coaching record argument to the kerb tonight and win the trick when it matters. That time is now. We won't have the quality of this squad together for a while again.
Good luck to our lads tonight, we are all right with you.
This week has dragged, i've woken up every day asking Are we here, is it Friday. Melbourne spent the week doing media and fan day stuff. Thankfully Robbo learned after last time to not treat this like a flipping mini break, the shopping, the sightseeing, embarrassing thinking how amateur it was and boy it showed. Hearing that they flew down the night before to get the job done was a huge relief. Not really worried about Munster, I may eat my words, he will dip in and out since he's sewn together like a rag doll , the worry is Hughes, and Nelson who probably won't give af about baiting or being a maniac like Lodge. Apparently the plan is to put big Frankestein up against keary in the 2nd half ? typical. Expecting big games from the Josephs .
I've been thinking about this game all week, and pondering over what we need to do, and why we've lost so many times against them recently. The phrase that keeps coming to mind is "We just need to get it right". I feel like almost every single time we've played against the Storm or the Panthers, we just don't have the correct mentality or execution. I believe we're certainly capable, but we need the correct mix of discipline, respect, grit, physicality and our own style.
Last time we played them, we missed the jump completely and their pack, which is medicore on paper, completely towled us up. That can't happen again. The guys simply must win the middle. We can't kick ourselves out of trouble - we don't have that option with Keary and Sandon, so the forwards absolutely must win the yardage/physicality battle, while also being disciplined enough to not give away a stack of penalties.
I'm not concerned about Munster. He typically doesn't do all that much against us. Katoa, Paps and obviously Hughes are the ones that particularly worry me. And if we don't win the ruck, Grant will also tear us to pieces.
I think it will be close. I feel as though we're going to fight tooth and nail for this win, and the winner may be decided with 5 to go. Getting our start right, and not being blown off the park in the first half would be an immense help, as this has happened in our previous games against the Panthers and Storm.
This is what it's all about... big games, big moments, the big prize!!! ...what a professional sports franchaise lives for... all aboard! Everything starts up front... we dominate, we win!
We need some luck as well which I know you make your own. You know why can’t we get the bounce off the posts straight into our hands like the Riff did. Why can’t the ball turn/bounce the right way for a 40/20 when we need it best.
It’s been a hell of a ride this year viewers. No matter what the outcome tonight, it’s been a good year to be a Roosters fan. Even the shyt at the start of the year played a role helping this team become the force they are.
I am very confident we will win tonight and set up yet another GF appearance by the best RL club in the world!
we are built to play these prelim finals. I expect that our attack will be fine and we’ll put some points on but it’s weather our defence can hold up to it’s standards. For the big dog tonight the team will do EVERYTHING for 90 + mins if we have to tonight
