sam walker hasn't quite reached the elite level but the way he played this year suggests he'll get there. his injury couldn't have come at a worse time - cruelled us this year and he'll miss most of next year. still, i wouldn't be unhappy if we signed him on a long term deal. his partner? sandon's got the gig for next year and it's too early to say how he'll go. his defence clearly needs a lot of work but the other parts of his game show promise

The so called grooming and the romanticism attached with experienced players to guide the up and comers really hasn’t worked nor did I buy into it. Walker and Keary combo a fail in my opinion, dear Luke battled on too long. So the question is now, is Walker a less than a 100 gamer to nurse Sandon? Radley and Butcher failed to impress me in 2024. Radley like Collins has lost his speed, maybe fatherhood and a lack of sleep just like Joey M.

S Walker and S. Smith will eventually make a good halves pairing Imo.

The sky's the limit with Walkers playmaking ability.

I don't know why we never chased Luai to be honest, a 6'0 90 KG 5/8 who can kick, pass and run well. If we don't have a junior available then halves are pretty slim pickings this year and next year, maybe Braydon Trindall?

Can Walker develop a long kicking game?

IMO something we lost with 'Trell is his ability to just go WHACK and kick us out of trouble when we were up shyte's creek. Hutcho was a pedestrian but he also had a bit of length (a little bit like 'Long' John Daly the golfer... nice, slow swing of the old club with his tummy hanging out and a durry in his mouth as he did his long ones).

Teddy was doing some of our longer kicks if I'm not wrong (including long kick-offs) and we're losing the kicking option of Sua'ali'i.

Could be wrong but I almost feel that 'having a long kicker' is our issue rather than our halves pairing. Sandon can stand up and Walker is a POD dude. Does our long kicking game have to come from a half or do we just need to sign somebody with a big boot?

Let Marky Mark take the long kicks. All he would have done in union was kick the ball back and forward.

Dodd's form slumped soon after his signing was announced and was dropped to their reserve grade. That's why Wayne insisted they buy Jamie from Manly.
                      The jury is out!

Two small halves and a lack of a long kicking game is a massive concern. We need a big body Six like Freddie or Brendan Hall. We also have other problems.TBH I don’t think we would have troubled the storm or panthers even with our full side. Our forwards got flogged in the QF and prelim and we are losing Jazz. Plus we have an inexperienced backline next season aside from Tupes. Trouble ahead.

Add to that our first pick half and hooker out for half the year and who knows how they will perform coming back from their respective ACLs. Have we been asleep at the wheel in terms of recruitment?

The bloke appears to be a total knob head, but FMD he can play. He would have been a great addition for us.

Doubt we're looking at any new halves, we'll recruit from within and Townsend as a stopgap and mentor to our emerging talent.
Don't really buy into the inexperienced stuff, couple NRL games and you're experienced.
Lachlan Gavin (think that's his name) gone OK for newbie.
Similar to your first xxxx, after that you're experienced.

I don’t think size is the issue, we won back to back premierships with Keary & Cronk.

Not like Cronk had a massive kicking game either.
