We need a big off season signing. Short in the centres, and halves. Hopefully Manu is back by mid season.

That's the thing non if us really know if they're lining up 1 or 2 new faces with the $$$ they've got plus some players at other clubs maybe wanting out.

There aren't many 'big names' off contract though mate.

Tbh, there is not a lot worth buying - with many we'd be buying a weaker player than we already have.

        The exceptions are

        1. Verrills - if the rumours are true there is every chance if may happen

        2. Staggs - extremely good centre. We must assume Billy Smith isn't cut out for first grade. I'm sorry to say that, but it's too big a gamble now.

        3. RCG - as long as the price is right.

        3. Martin Tapau - just for a one year contract before he retires. Will be cheap and ok off the bench. Bring some needed experience & mongrel.

When all are back from injury it's a very decent team.

I would go for Jayden Brailey. Told by Newcastle he is free to look around. But eels might grab him. Matt Parcell is leaving super league to come home. Could be a good one year player . Playing for Hull Kr this week to get into Gf

It’s not the roster which is holding us back. We have great potential but our playing style is so awkward. We play a lot of panic footy instead of clever footy. Unless we grind and have patience we are going to keep handing over possession by trying to score off every set. If we can’t change our style then next year will be a carbon copy of the last few years going nowhere.

Won’t be surprised if we sign a few more as well. May well be a good thing to have a reboot of our squad, give it a freshening up

So Marty Taupau is terrible nowadays... that mongrel left him years ago. No chance Broncos let Staggs go early, and who knows if we’d even be interested, especially if Marky and Toia play well + Manu returns. RCG has got an overinflated ego around his price tag, so no chance we get him on a fair deal. As for Verrills, I mentioned in the Verrills that at best he’s a serviceable hooker. I really thought Watson was amongst our best at 9 in his weeks there. If we keep him at 9 gives us a chance to develop younger players like Steep, Wong and Whyte at 13

This for me is really the only “big” signing I could see us making. Ben Hunt will probably end up at Doggies or QLD. I could possibly see us going after Wishart as our new 9, but that wouldn’t be until 2026 anyway. Most positions for next year have already been filled

Question marks would be over the following:

Centres - For me I think we'll start round 1 with Mark N and Billy Smith in the centres, Mark N hasn't been signed to play reserve grade and Robbo sees a lot in Billy Smith. If Smith goes down to injury (Fingers crossed he doesn't but he is pretty injury prone...) then I could see that being Toia's shot. Wikipedia says Mark N can play centre and did that in Union so if that's true it makes sense that's where he'll be.

Halves - Sandon and Townsend will start the year, I don't mind Townsend when he's in form and Sandon was alright in the finals. Once Walker comes back it'll be a battle between Chad and Sandon for the number 6 jersey and I think that'd probably go to Townsend going off of 2024.

Prop (Replace JWH) - JWH is irreplaceable but I think we'll start with Collins and May. Leniu and Whyte off the bench

Hooker - I think we start the year with Watson at 9 and Dockar-Clay as our utility which isn't ideal as Watson is so great off the bench and will likely be the Australian utility.

                    ---

If we were to go into the market my opinion at least is that we should be looking to just sign a prop forward and an experienced hooker. Jordan Mclean I think fits what we need that being an experienced prop forward who would come cheap, the only experienced hooker available is Jake Granville but he'd be 36 years old and is well past his prime.

I reckon Smith and Toia will be the centres.

It would be handy if Savala stays. Is there any confirmation on what he's doing?

For mine, May needs to be a starting prop with Lindsay. I love Lindsay but he needs some mongrel injections. As is, he is not our forwards leader Victor is. A priority should be pushing one of the Va's into the starting 17. We need bigger bodies that can match it with the Nelsons and James Fischer Harris Paykel and the like.

While ranting it seems to me the side always does well with a no nonsense hooker eg Friend, Bonneti . I had high hopes for Brandon but I think we just need a reliable, steady hooker that can provide good service. I would trial Townsend in the position alla Hunt..... nothing ventured nothing gained. He can pass and tackle but is not going to set the world on fire in the halves. Maybe a Watson at half and Smith at 5/8?

We have the smallest halves combo in the comp and teams are always going to be taking the advantage of that situation.

Here's hoping Billy Smith is fine for next year... we really need him. I like Mark N in the centres but I reckon he could play a bit of back row too.

All in all 2025 is going to be an interesting year. Priorities are hooker and a big body half alla Burton who can kick further than a vermin Centrelink queue.

Will Smith be the goal kicker? if so is there a back up? Can Toia kick? Will Uncle Nick find us a surprise Christmas present?

Given Robbo gave his word to Young that he would be given a try in the centres. I think it could be Young in the centre and Marky Mark on the wing. BTW everybody Marky Mark has never played centre in his Rugby career only Wing or fullback.
