  • Madge to Broncos

Maguire has quit as Blues coach and has signed on as head coach at the Broncos. A terrific signing for a club that has plenty of talent, but lacks discipline, panders to big egos and too many “old boy” opinions. I reckon he’ll get the Broncos back into the top 4 next year. He’s had really crappy rosters in his last few club coaching gigs, so no surprise results were ordinary. The bloke is a real hard arse and will change the culture to extract the best out of them.

Is a coaching style like his what we need at the Chooks to bring back our discipline and hard edge?

Going off this year the only coaches we should realistically be looking at are Bellamy, Cleary or Fitzgibbon, throw Bennett in there as well based on how good he can be for some clubs but Robbo hasn't done badly at all this year.

As for Madge, disappointing that he'd pick the Broncos job over the Blues job. I wonder who will be NSW's newest coach.

I agree. Maguire is top tier and had too many years in the wilderness with the Tigers. You have to hand it to him for turning his career around and landing the Broncs gig. That's one of. the top four coaching roles in the NRL.

Pity for the Blues though. He seemed perfect for a role like that.

The Goons signed the bloke we needed after 12 years of Robbo. Not saying he is a better Coach but the sort of guy we need right now.

              Agree.

I didn't even realise he was available - thought he'd stick with the Blues a couple of years.

Madge can jump off a bus even quicker than Ivan.

Palmolive (Madge) will have his hands soaking in it handling the Bronco players—would have had to have changed his coaching philosophy—worked players into the ground, which was maybe alright at the start, but he was rather relentless with it.

Brian Smith had the same problem with texting: he would continually send texts reminding players of the game plan, their role, and antagonising ones.

How did he go coaching club sides in rugba leeg (since 2020)?

His only NRL gig since then was with Wests; not even Jesus Christ could turn that club around. Success with Wigan, Souths, NZ and NSW, plus trained under Bellamy; astute signing.

Damm would have enjoyed some more success with nsw having a good coach getting the best out of his players

Damb I really liked him. Now I’m going to have to be hating on him.

                              Tough gig!

Big club and a team full of huge egos.
