Realistic signing options with who i'd go for....we need a centre, half, hooker and prop

Centre - Val Te Whare or Josiah Karapani
Half - Niwhai Puru, Jesse Marschke or Carlos Tuimavave
Hooker - Matt Parcell or Jayden Berrell
    Prop - not many options

It's slim pickings out there atm, next year is a rebuild for sure

whats the situation with the other 2 May brothers?

The one in the UK - apparently has cleaned up his act and is mates with Mitch Pearce - and from memory he is a half

Other one has the off field issues - is he allowed to play or still legal issues pending? he was a centre/winger

so just position wise and from a realistic point of view - they are affordable, fit required positions and obviously a link to the club

Just unaware if either are available

We'd ideally be in the market for a centre, a half option, a genuine hooker and a prop but it doesn't seem like we're really in the market for anyone so I'm assuming Toia, Smith, Dom Young and Mark N will compete for centre positions, I don't want Dom Young to play centre by the way but that's the rumour I've read here, Sandon or Chad will get the 6 jersey, Smith will remain hooker upon his return and we won't sign anyone new and stick with our current props.

2026 I'm just going to assume Manu is back for that season so ideally we'd be looking for a winger to replace Tupou, a centre, a genuinely good half, a prop and a genuine hooker.

Winger you'd have to be considering Mulitalo, Addo-Carr (If he doesn't go early) and Cobbo.

Centre you'd have to be considering Staggs, Xerri and Laybutt

For a half there aren't a lot of options that I think would fit our club apart from the older guys such as Hunt, DCE etc but I'd think they'd all be ready for retirement or Super League at the end of 2025.

For prop there aren't a heap of great options there either but Josh King is available, he seems like he'd' fit in well with us and I really rate him.

At hooker I'd go hard for Reece Robson, just a really hard working hooker that does everything well.

2026 I'd hope for something like:

            1. Manu 2. Mulitalo 3. Staggs 4. Toia 5. Young 6. S. Smith (Not ideal) 7. Walker 8. King 9. Robson 10. Collins 11. Crichton 12. Radley 13. Whyte

            14. Watson 15. Leniu 16. May 17. Wong

            ---

I think that team would win a comp but I could be wrong, I am just armchair quarterbacking after all.
I don't think that team is as good as what we had this year. And I could be (hope) I'm wrong!

It is not just about signing new players, it’s about the systems, structure and coaching as well. Look at Penrith and Melbourne, they don’t have teams full of superstars but are well coached and drilled to a system. We need to change our philosophy on what Roosters rugby is too challenge the top teams

                True mate.

We will have another end of season review and Robbo and the coaching staff need to be honest and address the chasm between us and the top 2 teams.

Last year the review saw Robbo admitting he made some mistakes and undertook to rejig our attack a bit to yield more points. Tick.

We need a harder edge and a tougher resilient mindset when the cubby house falls down. Have to build that through a varied system of training and preparation. Plan A hasn't quite worked.

I said something similar to a mate the other day.

Great post. This team has to learn: how to go for 80 minutes, win more games, or go down swinging. Not concede 48 for f%&$s sake in a prelim final.

You mean the top team Jack - Penrith didn't get out of third gear in the GF - Storm had no answers to the boa constrictor game of Penrith's and the score line flattered them in end - Penrith were more than a 8 point better side - Storm are allowed to jump the gun in D and regularly move up in D before the ball clears the ruck - Allowed to wrestle and what not as well to slow the play the ball down which is often not policed as well by the Ref's

Gold Coast have a few surplus players. They’re stacked in the front row plus their backs are in abundance.

Id go for Jayden Campbell at 6. Indigine that can do it all

Anyone hear the rumours that St Merge don't want to resign Hunt now? Wouldn't mind him on about $800k for a couple of seasons.

Don't know his contractual obligations but Brian Kelly would be a handy acquisition. Just what we need with the Joey's departures !
