not wanting to put pressure on him but his input is crucial - exceed expectations and we're a chance to make the 8 and with walker and cheese coming back, who knows; under-perform and we'll struggle unless one of the young guns steps up. with both our starting halves from this year gone/injured we could struggle
I didnt say we dont have depth, every club has depth because every club has 30 players, its the quality of depth Im a bit concerned about.
Ive basically told myself that next year & probably 2026 are rebuilding years & that by 2027 guys like Elliott, Toia, Sansom Smith, Tait & King will be bona fide first graders with hopefully 1 or 2 of them becoming superstars.
I can't wait to see some of his pin point kicks leading to tries to Toups and Nawaqanitawase ..How many years did he sign for ? It'd be great to reunite him with Robson in 26 !
People are getting too obsessed with long kick game as being our weakness. Until we learn how to adapt to 6 again, defend our line and clean up the errors, our kicking is irrelevant.
Sorry Mate but you get the dumb comment of the day award.

You'll have to backdate it given I said it 2 months ago haha. Point still stands though. There are far greater issues with the way we play but I do acknowledge that we don't have anyone to kick us out of trouble, which is always a luxury and improves a team.
I don't think Mr. Townsend will improve the long kicking deficiency anyway.
What's the obsession with a long kicking game? Mitchell Pearce had one of the longest kicking games of all time and everybody hated him and spent almost 10 years wanting the club to get rid of him. There's a lot more to a halfback than how far they can kick the ball. When the forward pack gets belted and we're kicking off our 40 with the opposition backs set in position it doesn't matter how far you can kick it anyway.

We need someone who can kick us out of trouble and then force an error off a huge spiraling bomb.
Kicking game can turn a poor set into a great one. So is pretty key to Storm and Panfers being so dominant.
take your point, it’s not everything but it’s a pretty sizeable advantage
Mitchell Moses has arguably the longest kicking game in the league how is that going for Parramatta? Penrith and Melbourne give their halves quality field position to put in kicks that's where the difference lies it has nothing to do with how long Cleary or Hughes can kick it.

Fair, but same could be said for DCE. Parra and Manly stay in the fight in a fair amount of games because both Moses and DCE have big boots. It’s not everything, I acknowledged that. You need a solid team around you, and that half needs to be able to pull the strings. But having big kicks can help keep you in the arm wrestle longer.
Thanks for the share but to be brutally honest none of those were creative, most were simple catch and pass hardly worthy of a try assist and the rest off kicks. Some were complete stab in the dark bombs in the middle and lucky that the edge back rowers latched onto some lucky bounces.

Usually disagree with nearly everything you say lol. However this is exactly what I have been saying. Yes it's good to have a long boot in the team to get us out of trouble but the good teams are not the good teams because their halves can kick it really far. It is not the be all end all.
It's about getting the first 4 tackles of the set right and defending our line. These are 2 areas that the Riff and Melb do infinitely better than us.
