I thought Townsend was a terrible signing when it was first made. However, after losing Walker and succumbing to the fact that Townsend would be our half back I actually think that he has a huge point to make. Possibly the best thing to happen was him getting dropped by cowboys.
I’m hoping with now almost certainly getting a lot of game time he comes out and absolutely shreds. He doesn’t have to overplay his hand. But just get to ball to the right position and lead our team.

That's what he has been successful at in the past. He also kicks goals.

We probably won't be winning a comp with him in the halves but he'll be a steady influence.

He's also got some grub in him. We lack in this area.

IMO much of his mission will be to keep the ship steady while Walker and Cheese are out injured.

He doesn't need to steamroll teams or anything. He just needs to jump right into the role (no spending 6 months 'trying to click') and make sure we win more than 50% of our games so that we're a threat once Walker returns.

Had we not signed him, I reckon we woulda been pretty farked as I can't really think who else is on the market right now. He might not win us a premiership but he could still help us to retain our dignity.

Had we not signed him I dare say we would be going full tilt for Ben Hunt........and Uncle Nick usually does get his man once he goes all in.....

Townsend will be a steadying hand and knows how to play the long conservative game, he won a comp at 7, but unlike Cronk, he has shown signs of old age (in a NRL sense) in his most recent season or 2........and his defense is not the best.

I hope he really does a good job, anyway lets wait and see.......

Nick couldn't get Fifita,SJ or even farken Dane Gagai....our pulling power is a little tarnished

He still needs to be a playmaker to some degree. Catch and pass doesn't cut it especially when your 6 is still developing his game. Thankfully Townsend is only on $300k which would give us some hope of signing Hunt.

He did get Fifita - he just renegaded on the deal
Gagai and Johnson didn’t want to move towns towards the back end of their careers and Johnson retiring
glad we didn’t get any of them but we will jag someone soon

He didn't get Fifita. Bottom line is we wanted him, he didn't want us in the end. Not sure you can say you got a player if he didn't even set a foot in the joint

....and I know why the others didn't come...again, we wanted them and they said no thanks.

Who would you rather have though Crichton or Fifita - dodged a bullet when Fifita reneged on the deal

You would end up losing players like Blake Steep for instance - He now get's a shot at NRL next year as do the Va'a brothers

                        We had him signed
and in the 10 day cooling off period he got des telling him he wanted him and to get out of the deal
we only wanted him when his agent asked us to put an offer in as he wanted to leave we didn’t go hunting got him trying to tell him to bail out of his deal

even uncle nick said it he came to us wanting to play with us so we gave him an offer and then within 2 days he changed his mind - even nick was like wtf?

They may turn out great, I hope they do.

Will be a few years before they're hardened first graders. No problems if the club chooses to do that, but unless we bring in some seasoned players to replace what weve lost we are in for a few tough years...hopefully the clubs patience pays off if they choose this route
