They give 100% of what they have every time that are on the field but May seems solid without pushing himself. May doesn’t run with the purpose off the back fence like Spencer does and he doesn’t fold blokes in half like Smith does. He’s missing the mongrel edge and just does what he has to do without really pushing himself to fight for that last millimetre. Culture comes from blokes like JWH who will go into places that others fear to tread and do anything for the team.
Also Brendon smith has a track record off field and shown little on field on a massive wage
if we only had players like jwh and rads we would have no team as they would be always suspended you need spart players to go with the nut jobs
thats what I like about our front row rotation next year atm
Collins - big motor who can play 80 min and very useful particulary in D
whyte - footwork in contact and leg drive for PCM very similar to sst or lui - and can play big minutes and also lock or edge
may - plays 80 min or at least big minutes and has footwork and ball playing skills and can still easily make 160mtr a game
Leniu - no one better for energy off the back fence

for this reason I’d start Collins and Whyte and have May and Leniu off the bench - if we don’t replace may we are stuffed around origin time

    • At least we now know the reasons for Easts lackluster performances in recent years- the quiet, unassuming agitator otherwise known as Tyrell May, whose influence has kept Wong and co in reserves and Spencer on the bench. His behavior so bad that Easts used Weidler for the hatchet job. Likely didn't ring quite true to Buzz, who usually leaks this stuff for us. Still Easts know what they are doing. It's not as if players are no longer knocking down our door to play here. And I'm sure the treatment of Sitili and May, Weidler's suggestions certain players are easily influenced, will really motivate that group of players to greater heights.

It’s smelling like 2002 again to me except we don’t look likely to take the prize.

Do you deliberately call him Brendon instead of Brandon? You do it consistently so I know it’s not a typo.

They did basically fully flip their squad
a couple of years ago they had a nsw cup squad running around in the nrl
they have basically started again and getting good players
they are still short a 7 and two good props before being considered a real contender

May will be a huge signing for them if they can lure him across.

Brendon smith is supposed to be a marque player on $850k who gives his all but is gassed after 20 min and can’t get his passes right! Spencer runs hard but has 2 x 20 min stints
that’s the beauty of May and Leniu - may plays big minutes and is a smarter prop with footwork and ball playing skills unlike Leniu so he and Leniu work well together
if we had 17 off the back fence and mongrel type players we would get no where as players would be off their head getting binned and penalised
you also need footy smarts and at times play smarter not harder
                        You’re on the ball here.

So what if May doesn’t run as hard as Spencer or tackle as hard as smith. Can Leniu handle the workload that Terrell normally finds himself doing once he’s out there? No.

Did Leniu play every game for us this season? No. Did Smith? No.

They worked well together. It’s a strange decision anyway you want to to look at it - dogs will love him.

                        • It would have to be pretty serious to let a player like May walk.

I find it hard to believe that it was just an "attitude" problem. FFS

I would have thought that a man manager like Robbo would be able to fix an attitude problem that’s clearly only emerged since May was resigned. We may never find out the real reason, but I reckon it has a fair stench to it and it must be more than just a poor attitude.

                            • I don’t know anyone who could possibly have heard any of Mays interviews and not understand the connection between the reasoning supposedly given for his off loading.
                              Makes sense to me.
He has natural ability and a work ethic driven by money not the desire to win at all costs.. which is ok, but obviously not enough for what the management wants.
We don’t know the little things that go on behind closed doors.
They may be subtle, but enough for the staff to note that this is not the type of player they need in the front row.
When I heard his interviews, I wasn’t impressed, he isn’t someone I’d want to go into battle with.
Unless you are there day in and out, then it’s hard to know really.
The only real question is whether this was known before he re-signed.
But I might be way off.

Not sure I have ever heard a player say they would play for nothing—usually the old need to look after their futures like they are not long off reaching 60 and retirement. - Still have a long work career in front of them—maybe they need a transition to retirement scheme for Footy players so they can ready themselves for a working life after Footy—clubs have plenty of contacts as far as work options go—players should also undertake studies and whatnot to obtain the relevant qualifications required including some work experience.

Not privy to it all, but interesting that Mitch Aubusson, Boyd Cordner, and Jake Friend saw an issue that they felt needed to be addressed one way or another.

Obviously a change of direction is required, and you need the players to buy into this and/or elevate or sign players that will and cut those that won't or are considered not capable of doing so.
