I’m willing to back the judgement of the club on this one who have the full picture of the impact this kind of attitude may be having on the playing group.

If I were De La Salle Va’a and someone who I consider a role model is going around saying he doesn’t really care about the game and would happily quit any minute without considering the effect it might have on his team then I’d be 1 - very disappointed that someone that cares about the club so little is a preferred choice to bleed for them over me and 2 - potentially strayed into thinking the same way.

Imagine going from Jared Waerea-Hargreaves whose love for this club never waivered for 16 years being the role model for the young forwards coming through, to Terrell May who is there for money only and would be fine with leaving at the drop of a hat if he had a strong enough urge.

I know it’s not a direction I personally want to go.
To me it sounds more like mental health issues. I find it pretty ordinary from the club to completely blindside him, did they ever attempt to reel him in and have a chat?

He was one of our better, more consistent players WITH this ongoing could you imagine when he mends the mind how he will go?

    Hmmm.

IMO others would feel the same way, he's just vocalised it. Also, no fans are bothered by the said interview. I've said it before but I reckon members should write to the club and make it clear they back him for his talent & honesty. Have a word with him if it's not consistent with our media policy but sacking? Fark aaaawf IMO.
Most businesses/corporations are essentially dictatorships. This shouldn't be surprising.

The word has such negative connotations but in reality it's an efficient and more stable model for businesses to run. The biggest rabbles of clubs are where there are too many voices and opinions.

The club has values and expectations and feel May isn't in line with those anymore. They can't sack him as you suggest but they certainly can tell him that he's not in line with the clubs values and he can look elsewhere if he wants.

I find it odd that we've drawn this line in the sand only months after re-signing him.

But at the same time I think this club has been built on legends like Hastings, Beetson, Minichiello, Ricketson, Cordner, Friend, Aubusson etc. Good Roosters people who bled for the club and I would much rather the club aspire for their players to replicate that than not so I'll back this decision as much as I like May as a player.

      • May was seen as a replacement of JWH.

Look at JWH his actions on and off the field inspired many young players . They didn’t want to disappoint him.

When you ‘go to war’ you want to know that the man beside you will do everything it takes. Unfortunately May couldn’t be trusted to do this and you can’t have a leader or alpha who feels the way he does.

It’s sad to see hime go but I get it.

          Indeed.
As nice as he might be as a person.
But, what happens now, in reality, if no other club steps up to sign him?
We pay out his legal contract? $2m or so.

He has a 2yr contract totalling 900k, don't know where you pulled 2m from.

There's no chance someone like Newcastle or the Dogs don't snap him up at 500k a year.

Eels have ageing forwards and is closer to May's family. That would be my bet. Maybe even a swap + money for RCG.

You obviously missed RCG signing with the Titans....

I don't buy this BS that it was because of an interview in September where May said somedays he doesn't want to be an NRL player.
He has been clear & vocal about his lack of motivation plenty of times in the past - it's the coaches job to motivate the player and unlock the passion, it is literally ALL someone like Wayne Bennett does.

Sounds like Robbo has just given up because he doesn't fit a certain ideology which is concerning because no 2 players are the same.
Wouldn't surprise me if he just wants an entire team made up of Nat Butchers because they just turn up everyday

Yes, I missed it. I still think Eels make more sense for him.

As others have mentioned, our forwards have done f/a without JWH to lead the way. That was my reasoning for targeting someone like RCG. We cannot afford to carry someone who "doesn't feel like it today".

                  • I feel for him, seems like he is just saying what he feels.

after hearing this, can anyone think of many games where he didn’t put in? Just because he says he doesn’t have league as his number one priority, doesn’t mean he isn’t doing his job.

If he isn’t picked up by another club, would the roosters not select him in their top 17, even though he is close to our best front rower?

You really think Bennett has been able to find what makes every player tick? Bellamy has failed as well with different players. Some guys don't want to be motivated, you can't make a person do something they don't want to do and at the end of the day, if they don't want to buy into what you're trying to create you cut them loose.

Yes, at times I felt he has been dancing around too much instead of using his big frame to bend the line.

I can’t pick it, he is one of our only forwards who consistently get some second phase play, I get in a team sport, you want everyone to “buy in” to the psycho babble that is overused these days, but I wonder how many players honestly feel the same way as May, but just keep it to themselves.

Even in our own jobs there are many things that we can't say about how we feel. Especially if you are earning big bucks, you stfu and lead by example by maintaining a professional and positive attitude. If you want to take a MHD then get a lowly paid government office job.

Really? Bennett and Bellamy get rid of plenty of players that don’t fit their ideas or don’t come with the right attributes. Milford was dumped by Bennett as he was told to improve his attitude, his fitness, his motivation, he didn’t and was only used sparingly last year as a last resort. There have been plenty of players that Bellamy has cut also.

                              • I'm a Butcher bros fan & a May fan... stating the obvious, but getting that right balance of talent & temperament will get the success we are chasing, ...I think our spine needs more attention than middles (plenty of cattle there atm)... the cold hard truth of professional sport, no one really cares how you feel, you are paid & expected to perform... there are plenty behind you (where you once were) that will jump at any opportunity. Just my 2c worth.
