  • Sam Walker re-commits for two more years

The Sydney Roosters are thrilled to announce that halfback Sam Walker has penned a two-year contract extension, securing his place with the Foundation Club until at least the end of 2027.

Since making his NRL debut with the Roosters in 2021, the skilful playmaker has established himself as a key member of the squad. While an ACL injury sidelined him in the back-end of the 2024 season, 22-year-old Walker has made 77 top-grade appearances to date.

“I’m really happy to be extending with the Roosters. This Club feels like home and I’m grateful for the support of ‘Robbo’, my teammates and all the staff,” said Walker.

“I’m looking forward to getting back to training later this month so I can keep working hard on my rehab and play my role for the team,” he added.

Roosters Director of Football, Mitchell Aubusson, was pleased to retain Walker as a key member of the Club’s long-term plans.

“Sam’s dedication to improving his game and his commitment to the team is a reflection of the terrific person he is on and off the footy field,” said Aubusson.

“He is a much-loved member of our Club for the player and person he is, and an important part of our long-term plans, so it’s great that he will continue to represent the Roosters well into the future,” he added.

Love Sam and it's better than nothing but when you break it down, it doesn't really mean much.

He will be out injured for 60-70% of next season. Will be lucky to play 8 games for us next year.

So we've basically re-signed him for 2026 only and he can negotiate again this time next year where the circus goes around again. He will effectively play no more than a handful of games for us until his contract situation becomes an issue again. Add in the fact that Reynolds will almost certainly be gone by then at Brisbane (and maybe even Mam), that will add even more to the Brisbane rumors. Quite annoying.

He's laughing all the way to the bank with it and good for him for getting the deal. We should've pushed for 3 seasons at least.

We have him for 2026 and 2027, so we will get around 2.5 yers out of him under the new contract.

This young man could be anything. Just need to have good consistent hard working forwards to give him protection and space.

          Go Roosters.

Sorry I was a little wrong with I said because he will still not be able to negotiate next year. Still though he will only get the full year of 2026 before he can negotiate again whereas if he wasn't injured he could brain it next season, win us a comp and still be under the same contract without any cloud over it.

At the end of 2026, we could very well see Teddy retire freeing up a truckload of cash. Who's to say the club and Sam haven't had the discussion about him becoming our marquee man and captain from 2027 onwards in which case this arrangement suits everybody.

once he comes off contract for 2028 he will be only 25 and right in his prime

                    Good perspective. This is true.

Teddy seems to be the sort of bloke who will go until he absolutely can't any more though.

In context - Nathan Cleary's contract is 1.2 mill a season so Sam Walker's 1 mill is up there

Panthers Group chief executive officer Brian Fletcher has revealed his plan to sign Ivan and Nathan Cleary for life after a fourth straight premiership. Currently Nathan is signed until the end of 2027 on a $1.2 million-a-season deal while Ivan's contract also ends that year

The club gave Walker another 2 years to keep his camp happy. What happens in 3 years may not be what Sam thinks is going to happen.
Uncle Nick may have let him win this one, but don't ever think you can out-smart the great man.

Don't know what you mean by discussions on being the marquee man.
In 2026 Walker will be the highest paid player at the club, that already makes him the marquee man.

You are assuming he is still alive. 3 years is a long time when you are in your 80's
