Our current situation where we have heaps of money, vacancies in key positions yet zero options is a monumental balls up of planning and management.

They don't need to win Quiz Nights, they need to be able to coach footy players. I can't think of too many better credentialled people to do that.

I agree. It's difficult to criticise that group of Roosters heroes but there's a bad taste about the style of authority we're using.

The Storm and Panthers have had to cut-off lotsa of players over the years. However, it doesn't feel like they're a big happy family that periodically cuts off friendly aunts / uncles / cousins...etc without any particular reason.

Places like Brisbane have a different type of old boys' club and I'm not saying we're there. However, it does seem to be a system where some figures are coated in Teflon while others are disposable for the most secretive / nuanced reasons (and they'll always be the last to know when they're on the way out). The sport can be brutal and there's always hard decisions to be made... I get it! However, IMO good management can do such work a lot more seamlessly.
