God I hope he wrong but right now I would take just about any option. Sad thing is thought that even a side with a superstar would be shit with a poor coaching structure and zero game plan.

We have too many islanders in our team. As I've said in another forum, the only ones I'd keep are SKD, JWH and Tasi. The rest are no hopers who can't play more than 5 mins of decent football without having a ****ing brain explosion.

The broncos fielded a side 1 year younger than us on average today. They also have had one of the younger sides in the comp apart from us over the last couple of years. They have proven that a youth policy is not the problem. what is is the way we are going about it. they are playing to a clear game plan and with plenty of confidence. that is the answer

Roz, the difference yesterday was that they had a halfback and we had two sub-standard 5/8s - in those conditions we were on a hiding to nothing without a halfback.

In general though, the Broncs have a smarter youth policy than us - lots of good kids (like we have) but then 5-6 rep playing old heads smattered through the team that we do not have.

I'm sure everyone will also argue coaching and that may be true but what we lack in this side is quality experience - we really only have Mini in that category.

Interestingly enough I was watching the decade of excellence DVD on Saturday (takes my mind off our current situation) and there were very few (sometimes none) islanders in our squad right through that period.

Barnett, Cayless, Lomu, Kidwell and Lowrie the main notables over a decade or so (I mayhave missed one or two). Nowadays our squad (and most squads) seems mostly islanders.

I have no idea what to make of this but it is fascinating how quickly the balance has shifted in the NRL.

Maybe just maybe the young Broncos players are much better than ours, did that dawn on you? If the club had quality young players coming through then I'd be all for it but our young players on the whole are rubbish. When you combine the young and talented Broncos players with their established stars then voila you have a quality team. We have neither.

What does that have to do with a youth policy? you come on here and say a youth policy is silly, look at every other club etc etc. the broncos are doing exactly what we are doing. I not once made the suggestion that we had a better or worse crop of youngsters and this has nothing to do with the quality of the 20s either. I seem to recall back in 08 when we ran last in the 20s and a couple of us were talking up the prospects of blokes like friend, tamou, kennedy, winterstein, cordner, masoe and everyone got on here (or maybe it was the other wall) and talked about how they were all no hopers.

That said, I do actually think we have a better crop of youngsters than them. Tasi, JWH, Kennedy, Cordner, Moga are all serious talents and thats not just coming from me. A lot of grass is greener on the other side sort of comments floating around here of late. I still cant get over the hysteria about leilua that was on here not that long ago only to see him make the NSW squad

I cant disagree with any of that. My point is simply that the crap about the youth policy not working etc is absurd and the broncos are definitely showing the way. What I will say however is that we actually do have those 5-6 rep/experienced players in the side (Mini, Pez, SKD, Braith, Pearce, Maubs, FPN, JWH, Friend). even though far younger than their broncos counterparts these guys are all either rep players, on the cusp of rep footy or past rep footy players and all have played 100+ games of first grade (except friend and JWH who are both pretty close which is why I added them in). The problem is that imo, pez and braith in particular are not pulling their weight and not adding enough to lead the younger guys. Mini has been patchy but good overall imo
