  • 9 weeks, such a random number. Almost like they wanted to give him more than Spencer did for monkeygate to avoid mass criticism and hypocrisy (which they've failed to do). End of the day it's still the News Corp Broncos we are talking about here so no more than that extra week... lol.

NRL doing him no favors. He will be targeted by fans going forward and will have the court of public opinion offside with him for many years to come. As opposed to both the player and NRL accepting criticism for the laughable way this has been handled, a certain card will be played instead I have no doubt.

    • The law should have handled this with a harsher penalty.

If for nothing else, let’s hope this means he will never put other people’s lives at risk by getting behind the wheel under the influence. Should be enough to scare most people from doing it and getting their life in order.

if he does that, I’ll call it a good result.

It's one reason why I think that a Singapore style approach to drug possession/usage is more effective than hippies would like us to think.

Though I appreciate that 30 years in prison for having a joint on you is stupid, I reckon a hard line should be drawn. Something along the lines of... the cops/courts don't give a shyte if an old f@rt enjoys a midnight toke in his backyard (with no kids around...etc). However if you get busted with a 'cocktail' of hard drugs in your system, while driving around recklessly and being a farking d!ckhead then I reckon the law should be along the lines of 'we ignored your private usage but as soon as you got behind that wheel, your protection was gaaaawnski!!! You're doing time brother and doing a rehab plan isn't you being a good dude... it's COMPULSORY as part of your punishment!!!'

If I belonged to the Drongos' management then one of my questions would be... 'how did you get this shyte? You must be connected with dealers... who else was using with you?!? We can ignore the odd party by when we're failing to make the 8 and you guys don't even give a shyte then gimme one good reason not to sack you all!!!! No like dead set mate, YOU went and said that Leniu's behaviour was shyte and we backed you... why should we accept your apology for making us look like absolute shyte both on and off the field?!?'

          • Lots of worthwhile comments on this post. It's clear from being a multiple offender he hasn't learnt his lessons and is more than likely going to re offend. My best friend lost his 27 year old son to a driver, who had lost his license, was speeding, had drugs in his system and T boned my friends sons car killing him instantly. Another case where the offender should have Been doing time to learn from his prior offences. After the death of my friends son, the driver got 6 years with 4 years non parole. That was also grossly inadequate. Mam absolutely should be doing time...12 months minimum as a re offender. And the NRL should have as a minimum doubled Pearces and Lenuis over the top suspensions and given Mam 16 weeks.

            • Crazy in todays day and age a person saying a name after being provoked and tried to apologise cops the same sentence as an unlicensed - drug and alcohol multiple offender who almost killed innocent people

all this will do as it’s been mentioned it make Mam be public enemy number 1 and turn everyone off him
should be stood down for 1 year min

the sentence he got is discusting for the act he did

Well said. If you asked 100 people in the street whether 4 years prison was appropriate given the circumstances you described, I reckon more than 95 would say "absolutely not". The courts are completely out of touch with the expectations of society.

You've hit the nail on the head. And if that (the 9 weeks) is the case, it would prove PVL and co. are treating the NRL Rugby League supporters as fools. Not to mention the pathetic Judge who imposed the slapped with a feather sentence. He (the Judge) should be looking for a job elsewhere but no doubt I think he's picked up a windfall, so it probably won't matter.

If there are any positives in all this incident is one: the 'victims' are alive and hopefully will make a full recovery and two: 'monkey boy' is now the most hated person in the NRL. It won't be just Easts supporters booing the crap out of this crybaby.

If Ezra is going to cry about being called a monkey, let's hope constant booing (as well as other ways this brain-dead fool will be intimidated by) has such a seriously psychological effect on him that he decides to call Rugby League quits and we never see him again. Moreso, I hope he never drives a vehicle ever again. Best I don't hold my breath on that last one.

"Do you expect me to talk"? "No, Mr. Bond, I expect you to die".

Only slightly more serious apparently, hence only one extra week. Call me skeptical but that 9 week number seems to be a very deliberate and cynical choice.

Exactly! Seriously the guy clearly needs a stronger punishment as a deterrent and to make him realise that getting behind the wheel of a car requires a certain level of responsibility. How the judge can hand out another weak punishment given he hasn’t learnt from prior incidents is beyond me especially when a 4 year old child was injured. The whole thing really, really annoyed me. Edited to add, I’m sorry to hear about your friend’s loss. What an absolutely horrible experience for the parents and family to go through.

And for a guy like this Mam, who appears to have had quite a few of these soft no consequence outcomes for his constant terrible behaviour over the years, and should be pretty farkin thankful, for him to make such a big deal out of Leniu's single word said in anger on the field, and play the race card and everything else, tells you all you need to know about him.

Spends his life trying to get off everything he does scot free, but makes the biggest deal out of what anyone else does, so they get the maximum punishment.

                          • 9 weeks? FFS

Pearce was stood down for 8 weeks and fined 125k for playing with a Poodle. Mam's actions threatened countless lives and he only cops 9 weeks.

That will do me. The NRL are spineless!

                            • You get banned for 2 years for steroids. Is the NRL actually comfortable with the perception that Performance Enhancing Drugs are 6 times more damaging to the sport than what this irresponsible Ahole did?

                              • Wtf only 9 weeks. The monkeys in the NRL must have been on drugs when they handed this suspension out.
