Power game is pretty straight forward. You're not trying to finesse you way through the opposition with set plays and foot work, you want explosive powerful runners who will win the physical contest more often then not leading to fast play the balls. Thirteen's comment about all forwards running hard is very simplistic. Connor Watson is not about running hard, he's about leg speed and covering the ground quickly. Victor mixes his game up, sometimes he's charging at the line and other times he's not. Canterbury were never about the power game with their small pack this year, they were looking for speed and agility to try and tire out the opposition.

It's the "new and improved power game" Forwards that can offload, play for 80 minutes and can also ballplay are too fancy for our new model and need not apply.

I reckon Robbo has 2 seasons to get up to speed or see you later, tell ya story walking, Ciao for now brah.

Mind you I reckon he'd go alright selling 2nd hand Fords.

        • So Robbo moved away from the power game when the 6 again was introduced and the old playing system would no longer cut it. And now we're meant to believe that we are going back to our old power game and Terrill May no longer fits the bill because he has too much skill. Ok

          Cue the resident shrink.

            Yep, im hearing you.

Terrill is a strong and well built unit who is hardly tackled to the ground.

You can't tell me master coach and co couldn't utilise these attributes by getting Terrill to just tuck the ball under the wing ala JWH, run hard and strive for a quick play the ball???
            Our loss someone elses gain....

            • I've watched a number of Roosters replays over the past few weeks.

May was a standout in most of them.

I'm still dazed and confused as to why he was given his marching orders.
1985: 1 try vs Parramatta, 1 try vs Manly, 1 try vs Wests, 2 tries vs Souffs
1986: 2 tries vs Illawarra, 1 try vs Balmain, 2 tries vs Norths.

                  • I don't think I've heard Robbo say power game at anytime in relation to how he wants tom play next year and where May fits in? What did I miss. Seems to be a lot of assumptions etc.

                      Exactly

I dont think a forward has ever been told to ease up with the hard running , you might hurt someone tiger.

Power game is based around having forwards who can play up tempo and are the most effective at gaining metres per run whilst also hopefully putting more fatigue into the defensive line due to the aggressive running style.

Wayne Bennett for example doesn't play a power game with his forwards. He typically likes a pack with natural fitness, high levels of attrition and low risk football.

Bellamy plays a bit of hybrid but is really looking for fundamentally strong defensive players, volume workers and just pure fast play the balls over metres gained per run.

Cleary looks for his power running to come from his wingers and centres whilst he's looking for more mobility, stamina & defensive proficiency from his forwards

If the expectation was that all forwards ran hard and powerfully then there wouldn't be a demand for players like Lindsay Smith, Tom Hazleton, Lindssay Collins, Jake Trbojevic, Cameron Murray etc. There's so much more to the game than just being a powerful runner. Odd comment from you.

Running with purpose overall makes the difference between winning and losing and that is purely about attitude.
