disagree - centre is the hardest position on the field to defend as you need to be in constant communication with the inside and outside and know when to slide, rush or hold

Didn’t know 28 yrs was considered young in first grade rugby league. Good to see the journo doing his research
The 'journo' was obviously fooled by Pauga's first name.
1985: 1 try vs Parramatta, 1 try vs Manly, 1 try vs Wests, 2 tries vs Souffs
1986: 2 tries vs Illawarra, 1 try vs Balmain, 2 tries vs Norths.

FWIW I had NFI what 'cheek to cheek' was so Googled it.

IMO it's pretty standard sprinting technique that's basically been branded for whatever reason. Not dissing Fabri (he's a highly respected coach), I guess more just saying it's nothing new/magical. You run with your arms and wanna activate your butt when sprinting.

I just hope that he's also working on his footy IQ and running skills as IMO it's relatively rare that you're gonna have a clear, straight, 80-100m, unobstructed lane down a footy field where you can focus on your cheek to cheek technique. More often than not I reckon you'll look 'faster' if you're a step ahead of somebody in the play or have fooled them, rather than being a freakish straight line athlete.

His best footy is still in front of him at 23. - All up 86 games - ESL/NRL/Tests - 81 tries

Agreed half and centre are the toughest spots to defend. Get one decision wrong and your outside man is screwed.

Dom Young reminds me more of a young SKD than a young Toops. Same impulse to consistently go for the big play whether that's shooting out of the line in defence or refusing to die with the ball on a half chance.

Robbo got the best out of SKD when he moved him to the wing.

              Similar situation with Fergo.

Not sure why people bag Dom for - only been playing league since 16 - in 7 years since played 86 games for 81 tries - EPL/NRL/Tests. - Only 23

Dom would be a revelation at fullback with his pace and size. I would be training him in this position- Be in the top 3 fastest players in the NRL.

                Turbo - 194 cm and 102 kgs
                Dom - 200 cm and 107 kgs

I just did another search and it came up with a video of Jaryd Hayne saying 'come watch Fiji Bati live, get your tickets', accompanied by thoughtful viewer questions including 'Shouldn't you be in jail?' and 'How come he sounds like a habibi?''

Alas, my Google-Fu skills may not be up to much

My initial thought after reading the title was squeezing butt cheeks together like he has a bad case of Diarrhea.

Turbo has been injured far too much of his career, not sure if fullback is the best position for the big tall players.

actually, other than Paul Hauff, I can’t remember too many tall successful long term fullbacks, even he didn’t last too long, Inglis? Played there, but I can’t remember how many games he would have played in that position alone. Latrell? Also breaks down a fair bit.

Unfortunately he doesn’t fill me with confidence under the high ball, so I don’t think fullback is his position, at least not in the short term

Turbo is sill a top notch fullback though despite the injuries.

incredible fullback, just seems to take a toll on the bigger bodies.

Mark Nawaqanitawase is 6"4 and i think he could go alright at the back.

Depending on your definition of tall - Clint Gutherson is 6"3 and has lasted a while
Hamiso Tabuai-Fidow is 6"1 for example

I don’t think just being tall is the issue, I think it’s heavy and tall that starts putting more pressure on the body,
Brett Mullins was an amazing fullback, he was tall, but I think he was maybe 95kg max.

the big tall fullbacks these days are pushing the 100kg+ mark, and are much more involved in the game then they were 30yrs ago.
