Jarome Luai, Lachlan Galvin, Api Koroisau and Jahream Bula.
Townsend, Sandon Smith, Connor Watson & Teddy.
3 to 1 they have a better spine.
If Walker & Smith are available it becomes closer but Luai has better credentials than Walker & Api is better than Smith so they still have a better spine.
Hard to argue with this assessment .
I wouldn't be too disappointed if the chooks poached Galvin before someone else does.
Remember when the Easts Tigers merger was being talked about in the Super League days?
Roosters and Dragons was the merge that was being discussed in 1995 which almost got to a heads of agreement stage - Being negotiated in private but got out and never happened due to pressure from Dragons fans
The Dragons almost merged with the Sharks and Illawarra to be one of the teams in the Super League Comp- the 3 teams were to receive 20% equity in the new team with 40% equity held by private investors - didn't happen - Dragons then merged with Illawarra instead and stayed in the ARL.
I think the Roosters other merge one involved Souths only - never got past first base. Kerry Packer brokered it and was going to tip money in.
I recall the teams that signed with Super League received 30 million over 5 years - 6 million per year
Had a neighbour a few doors up whose son played reggies for Wests - I recall him saying how his son signed a 3 year 220k contract with Wests - I thought it was 220k over 3 years - No 220k a season.
The first grade players pays went up significantly as well with players on 200 or 300k being paid 600k 700k / 800k a season - I recall the Roosters signing Fittler for 800k a season for 5 years.
It's a wonder that a number of ARL clubs survived as back in those days teams survived on League Clubs grants / income from home game crowds and merchandise sales - The sponsorship money wasn't like it is nowadays as well- not sure if they even received any money from the media broadcast deals which would not have been much back then compared to nowadays.
The franchise will not go belly up the only thing that will happen is the Tigers name will be replaced with the word Magpies.
Luai will not be coming to the Roosters.
Move on
Yeah I know it's silly season but the Whakatane Roosters ain't happenin' boys
The Dragons Easts merge was happening the saints board were all for it..I spoke to Johnny Raper at the time he said a particular retired player was paid handsomely by News ltd to put the spanners in and stuff it all up..that bloke was later arrested for gun running..The superleague didn't want it to happen as they felt we would become the most powerful club in the leagu..you get the picture.
Two things are infinite: the universe and human stupidity; and I'm not sure about the universe
