  • Egan Butcher extends 2 more years

    INJURED ROOSTERS GUN’S EXTENSION

The Roosters are reportedly set to hand gun forward Egan Butcher a contract extension after suffering a season-ending knee injury in May last year.

Butcher ruptured his ACL in Round 12 against the Raiders, going under the knife which saw him miss the remainder of the Roosters’ 2024 campaign.

Now, according to Code Sports, the 24-year-old is set to be handed a fresh two-year deal, with his current contract expiring at the end of the 2025 season.

Butcher has played 56 NRL games, having made his debut in 2021 against the Raiders in Round 12 of that season.

In a positive update, Roosters medicos are reportedly confident Butcher will be free to take the field in Round 1 against the Broncos in 2025.

I'm happy with this - he will not break the bank and has heaps of potential

            Great signing.
Just needs to improve his handling errors.

Still only 24yo, the best is yet to come from Egan and I think he has plenty to offer. He won't be world beater, but he's a solid 1st grader. Every team needs some honest toilers who don't break the bank.

Yep. Has hands like a digital clock at times.

I think he can be better than just a toiler. He hits holes, can use the ball and has good speed for a man of his size. Just needs to improve his ball handling.

                    "gun forward"

Did his manager write the article?

Egan's best footy is in front of him and the Butchers Brothers will be the foundation stones of the forwards going forward.

Not sure why they cop so much flack.

Chookpen favourites Nat and Egan Butcher

IMO they cop flack because they're simply not there yet. The powers that be seem to have anointed them as having potential but if you see the two named in your starting side, it's usually because a more established player is out. If (for example) Crichton and Rads went to Souffs and were replaced by the Butcher brothers then nobody would be cheering that the age of the Butchers is here.

That said, they've come through our systems and shown a lot of promise. I still think there's potential that one (or both) will play Origin. Just depends how they develop...

I don't think Nat can play any better. I'm not a big fan but he's been one of our most consistent for a couple of seasons now.

Egan has much more upside to his game but not sure if we'll ever see his full potential. Let's hope he kicks on.

Exactly. Blind freddy can see that Egan hasn’t really done much in his first grade career. I don’t understand how some on here can’t see the mediocrity. FFS call a spade a spade!
