The rebuild of new Parramatta coach Jason Ryles has been dealt a significant blow with star playmaker Dylan Brown seeking expressions of interest from rival clubs for the 2026 season.

Brown’s management company on Wednesday emailed prospective clubs seeking expressions of interest in the star five-eighth for the 2026 season despite having an option in his favour to remain at Parramatta until 2031.

Brown, who is on a contract worth close to $1 million a season, has a player option in his Eels contract that he has to take up before round 10 this season that will guarantee his stay at Parramatta.

Even if Brown triggers the player option to stay at the Eels before round 10, it doesn’t completely guarantee his stay at Parramatta until 2031.

He has another option in a few years’ time to get out of the contract if he wants to leave.

The Eels have been speaking with his manager Chris Orr for several months in an attempt to remove the options from his contract, however they haven’t been able to reach a resolution with his manager looking to test the market.

The email also included a link to highlights and is believed to have also been sent to rugby union clubs.

“Please revert back to Gavin and I on email to register your clubs interest in securing the services of Dylan Brown for season 2026 and beyond,” said the email sent by Orr and obtained by this masthead.

“Once we finalise the level of interest, we will work with you to set up an appropriate time to catch up with Dylan. These type of “Franchise Players” dont [sic] come on the market very often.”

Worth a look considering the lack of quality halves available. But his CV isn't anything to write home about. I think we could do more for his game, but wouldn't pay top dollar.

        He's overrated imo.

I've seen glimpses of class however yet to see him string 3 good games together.

I doubt we will be willing to pay the price he will be asking for..900k minimum especially if the eels have a good season…

Plays well about 4 times a year. The rest of the time he’s Sandon Smith.

He is overrated imo. I can’t see him adding much value to the team.

                  Can't see it happening.
We have Sammy until 2027, Rodwell until 2028 plus Sandon and Elliot.
We lose 2 or 3 of those if we sign him and he's not worth the price tag.

After what he did to Hutcho I'm not sure I could stomach him wearing the tricolours.

Ryles was always going have players testing the market once he gave the king the door.

Brown is a good running half but at a million a year would put the cap out of whack. Having 3 players on that amount would leave nothing for the forward. It will be interesting to see how our recruitment goes this year. 2024 we seemed to be a bit all over the place.

Not at a million a year.
He is likely to chase a club that can bring him a premiership and also keep his pay close to the million a season.
he fails to find that he will active his extension at the eels.

There will be a few clubs happy to pay overs for him but not a team that is in contention for a premiership.

I think he would be a very good signing and there's no doubt we could afford him but if we're serious about developing our own talent then we need to show a little more patience. Fittler, Anasta, Carney, Maloney, Keary... It's about time we started developing some 5/8's of our own.
