I think Dylan Brown is overrated however day and night a better option than Sandon Smith at this point and time in their career.
If we want to win a comp before 2027 we need to sign either Hughes or Brown.

Not sure why people are advocating for the signing of Brown as the Roosters will end up losing Sandon Smith / Toby Rodwell/Jake Elliot/Reece Foley/Hugo Savala for instance as why would they stay - Sam Walker is no guarantee to re-sign again when his current contract expires in 2027.
Have to start from scratch again in developing a new batch of halves if that occurred- going to be a challenge as it is keeping halves if the Sandon Smith/Sam Walker combo clicks as they would seen as a long term halves combo.- Dylan Brown is 25 in 2025
- Sam Walker is 23 in 2025
- Sandon Smith is 22 in 2025
- Jake Elliot is 20 in 2025
- Hugo Savala is 23 in 2025
- Toby Rodwell is 18 or so in 2025
- Reece Foley is 20 in 2025

ROOSTERS RAGE
The Sydney Roosters are fed up with player managers linking off-contract players to their club. Chairman Nick Politis has furiously denied weekend speculation the Roosters were to have talks with Parramatta Eels five-eighth Dylan Brown.
“We are not interested,” Politis said, “Whenever a big-name player comes off contract he is linked to us. It’s managers just trying to create interest.”

I think a new coach is required before a new major half is signed. We have Sandon at such an early stage of his career with so much potential. Rodwell and Elliott are there aswell, who are getting high praise from everyone that matters.
Players are important but strike power hasn't been our issue in the last 5 yrs. If we had a Cleary or Bellamy esque coach I'd be content with the young crop coming through getting the job done for us.

In comparison Sandon Smith has played 2 half seasons for the Roosters where he hasn't been able to consistently crack first grade and from memory has mostly come off the bench. Sandon Smith is very unlikely to ever be a runner up in a grand final as a starting half or be selected for Australia/State Of Origin as a first choice. To me he has bench utility or Super League written all over him.
With the young players, yeah they might disappear but does it really matter? As you said yourself Brown is 25 this year, Walker is 23 this year that's a halves combination that we could keep together for 5-7 seasons and would lead to us having a world class halves combination which is what we've needed since our grand final win in 2019. Watson will likely move on within 2-3 years as he turns 29 this season so perhaps one of those young players could become a decent bench utility option for us but if we sign Brown that's our halves combo sorted until at least 2030.
The one thing we've lacked over the past 5 years is a dangerous spine but Tedesco, Brown, Walker and Robson would definitely be competitive with every spine in the comp. That's why we must not take a gamble on a youth player and instead sign a proven star first grader.

D brown is an excellent player and has buckets of potential and would pair very well with Sam.

At the Warriors he went to the finals 4/6 times including a preliminary final and a grand final appearance. He was shit at the Tigers but who hasn't been? You could easily chalk that up to poor ownership of the team and not the coach.
He actually was pretty shit in his first run at Penrith only managing one finals appearance in 4 seasons. Has more than made up for it now though with the 4 grand final wins though I reckon
