He is a little hot and cold but has the potential to break open a game. He is still young too so has time to work on consistency.

He is 3 years younger than cleary and luai, 6 years younger than Hughes, Munster, Moses and 11years younger than DCE and Reynolds.

It's not so much about pissing off one kid because there's no guarantees with any one kid but rather about committing to the vision of being a development club and part of that is young aspirational players know that if they come to your club there will be opportunities and there is a proven track record of success of development. There's a reason why Melbourne just seem to have an endless production line of young kids waiting for their opportunity and it's because there's trust in that system that they won't just go out and but a star player and block their path to first grade. Harry Grant is happy to sit behind a Cam Smith, Sua Fa'alago is happy to sit behind a Papenhuyzen... that just doesn't happen anywhere else.

They're not just setting themselves up for success this year but for every year. We on the other hand seem to require these rebuilding years on the regular and when we have massive injury tolls we don't have the depth to back fill those position or expose young promising juniors so that's why I'm a fan of the clubs decision and direction.

I'm also not fundamentally or philosophically against the idea of be being a buying club but if we're going to be that then we need to stop flirting with the idea of being a development club.

In this instance I hope the clubs sticks with there guns for better or worse because I think it'll all pay off in the long run.

So a no to me on Dylan Brown but a Nathan Cleary or a position where there is no internal talent coming through is a discussion I'm always willing to entertain.
You make some fair points R6. I’m just impatient. It now feels like our success was quite a long time ago.

Nathan Cleary is currently the best 7 in the game imo. I've never considered him to be a freakish talent when he was younger. It's clear that he has worked extremely hard on every aspect of his game!

I think Sammy Walker's game is more advanced than what Cleary's was when he was 21. Sammy imo has that freakish natural playmakers ability and vision that can't be coached into a halfback. The sky is the limit ! He could potentially be as good as Andrew Johns one day.

I would say yes to this. I know Luke Keary was a premiership winner when we signed him, but I think Walker is equally as talented.

Keary was way more consistently better than Brown at the same age..

Brown has one good game followed up by three average games, whereas Keary consistently had an impact on games in my opinion..

Brown is a great running half but not a great organising half! To partner walker we don’t need an another good running 6 we need more of a game organiser!
Keary was supposed to play this role but still tried to play the running man like he did pre acl

I don’t think walker and brown would compliment as well together

I could see Walker going to another level with Brown as his partner. He's served his apprenticeship and needs a experienced half beside him not a rookie for the us to get the best out of him.
Be it Brown or somone else,
Walker hasn't peaked so why would you not complement him now as hes coming into his prime years.
I'd see it as a waist if we gave a rookie three years to find his feet.

Yes if he can get stronger . Joey John's could lift and back slam a prop forward !

I personally think Walker is more of an off the cuff 5/8 style of player the guy that does the fancy stuff & not an organising halfback.
I think Sandon Smith should be the halfback.

Be interesting to see when they play together as my view would be Sandon at 7 and Sam at 6 - Sandon is far more an organising half and Sam a running half,

Sandon was a fullback in juniors but obviously his height resulted into a move to the halves - 2021 playing SG Ball and a few games in Jersey Flegg until the comp was cancelled due to COVID - 2022 selected as the half back for NSW Cup - I thought the Volkster (Ronald Volkman) would have been the half back in NSW Cup pressing for NRL Selection.

Sandon was top in many of the KPI's for an organising half in NSW Cup that year (2022) - Line engaged (1)- 213 - Line Break Assists (1) - 26 - Try assists (2) 23

Reckon he could do well here.

Plus a bigger body to play alongside Walker.

                          I'm all for it.

Problem is Sandon plays like Dylan Brown 4 times a year and the rest of the time he’s Drew Hutchison

Especially if they had a QLD jersey on. His passion for NSW is next level. Strength is important however good technique can make up for a lack of size and strength.

Said it before and I'll say it again.

It's a make or break season for Sandon Smith.
