D Brown it will be..
Lets no forget that Dylan has been playing with Parramatta for his career..
Last year he had most of the season without his halfback ( forcing him to play there ) and hasn’t had a decent hooker since Reed Mahoney ..
Plus, he’s a Kiwi, which means no Origin

Surely we've put that option to bed after the 2023 season.

I think D Brown would be perfect. We are in desperate need of a quality 5/8 to partner Walker (unfortunately I don't think Sandon is the long term answer) and he is one of the best in the game.
I also love his game style and think he would compliment Walker. Walker can play too laterally at times and Brown (with young Katoa from the Dolphins) are the best at squaring up the attack and playing straight. Defensively he is very good (so we wouldnt have to worry about him), he is quick and has good support play. The only thing I'm unsure about is his kicking game, but this may be able to be developed. A good long kicking game would be perfect.
I remember a couple years ago he made Shaun Lane look like a world class backrower just because of how square he plays and the space he'd give him. Imagine him being able to do that with Gussy outside him, an actual world class backrower! Game over haha.
It's easy to shut down the idea, but I'd go hard for him. There is not many better and none of them are available. What other 5/8's would be worth entertaining realistically? Burton, Dearden, Luai. I personally think Brown is on their level and maybe even better suited to our team.
Unless of course the plan is to fast track young Elliot although I haven't seen enough of him to be confident that he has the goods.

I think Parra already pay Brown more than he's worth. He doesnt put in often enough. We'd be mad to pay any more to get him. I dont think we could improve his attitude. I think Sandon will go OK as a 7 with Walker at 6. They are still both young and should get better. But not so sure how Smith and Townsend will go while Walker is out. We have good halves coming through but its too early for them yet unless we have more injuries. It should be interesting in a couple of years. There will be some big decisions to make about Foley, Elliot and Rodwell.

will be interesting with rodwell, Elliot and foley as id say we will only keep 1-2 of them - just hope they kick on and we keep the best one to partner walker long term

Before his knee injury, Sam looked like he was really starting to dominate games… lacks in some game management skills but his influence on outcomes was obvious and unless his injury derails his trajectory, going into his fifth FG season, he’s now entering the point he can win us a premiership.
Thats much less likely to happen with a development player next to him. In reality; it could take another 2-3 seasons until his halves partner is ready. By that stage, Teddy is gone and we are rebuilding that position and leadership too. I am very suprised by the confidence shown by so many on this thread about our young halves/ system. Dylan Brown is ready to win comps now. With him in our spine, our team is in a genuine position to challenge for 2026 premiers.
These youngsters would want to be unique talents. Hopefully they are; I’d rather invest in youth and enjoy the fruits of that but it’s a much bigger risk.Last edited by ARD; 01-19-2025, 08:15 PM.

Would Ryles let him walk if he was worth the money he is on especially when you consider the shortage in quality halves?
The team that gives him $1 mill plus a season will finish in the bottom 4 imo. That's not a reflexion of Brown's ability. It's a reflexion of a desperate team that's poorly managed.

Even Melbourne had to pay their young backup halfback Jonah Pezet $600k a year to stop him from going to the Knights
