There is a bit of a paradox in it all, considering it's an illegal substance and it's against NRL protocols to do it... a powerful chairman coming out saying we won't stand for it should be stating the bleeding obvious. What he's doing is likely drawing attention that it's rife throughout the NRL and nothing gets mentioned. Almost like it's an uncomfortable truth that Nick is calling the bluff of every other club and the NRL on by making a comment on it.
Let's just hope Uncle Niko isn't left with egg on his face.

Can you imagine him having to walk the walk, if it's one of his pet players .

Pet players are who though? I think of players who would never do it anyway like Teddy, Mini, Cronk, Cords and SBW. Cam Smith was gutted when Brandon and co got busted as it tarnished all the hard work he'd put in to build their culture over the years

It's always gonna be a pain when you've gotta sack a player who fills an important gap, particularly when the team's having a shyte time. However, I don't think Nick & Robbo are unfamiliar with such circumstances.

I reckon this policy may have already been in place unofficially. We don't have to give public reasons for sacking players and often it's easiest to just help them find another club if we don't think they're a good cultural fit.

To me, part of our culture is about putting the team first. Over an extended period of time, Robbo has made it clear that he's not afraid to drop/sack players who are popular with fans (and then back others to step-up). IMO we've already seen this on multiple occasions so it wouldn't be that much of a shock.

You don’t get to where Politis is by not backing your principles and applying them whenever .

Current stars? Yeah nah... Teddy, Toops, Walker, Gussie and Collins are gangsters. Sorry to tell you.

There's clearly a reason why they've ruled a line in the sand though. As noted, I suggest it's probably to do with players laughing about the fact they need 2 or 3 dirty samples for the NRL to care (though the club will know if they get a dirty sample).

Incidents like Lodge and Gus' psychotic outbursts are enough to convince me that our club needs to minimise all connections with drugs, dealers. w@nksters and other men of low moral fibre where possible. Private individuals can do whatever the fark they want with their bodies and social lives. However I want our club to be full of ruthless athletes whose bodies and minds have NOTHING that could hold them back. One can do military camps and shyte to pull out all the dry metaphors about 'being in the trenches'...etc. Cool. However, IMO all this means bugger all if you make a bad call and/or lack consistency due to drugs rotting your brain... or... your cardio output is lowered by even a small percentage due to drug usage.

Since it's tennis season... we don't need naturally gifted fewlz like Tomic and Kyrgios who decide to shyte away their potential so regularly get towelled by unseeded nobodies from smaller countries with no tennis culture. We need players like de Minaur who's essentially a nobody by comparison but due to hard work and commitment he's consistently showing up with his A-Game... which is good enough to make a QF (and topple a few quality players along the way).

If people want a team full of Tomics and Kyrgios' who are highly rated but always injured and under-performing then sniff away. I'd personally rather have a team full of toilers who stay fit and consistent because they train properly. Yes a premiership probably needs a few superstars, but we want the right ones... not farkin' Ezra Mam, Walshie, Barba, Hayne, Trell Mitt and friends.

PS - Cleary and Cam Smith aren't gangsters
One of those players you named is big time connected lol like I said the average fan hasn't got a clue and it stays that way for the most part.

How many of those players have you got to know? How many of their siblings, family, friends did you get to know? Players come in to the league in their mid to late teens but they're often coming in to the gang life a lot earlier than that. You're a big time lawyer you should have some kind of finger on the pulse on this stuff you can't be this wide of the mark on how deep organised crime goes in Sydney, even the NSW police had talks with the NRL a few years ago about crime figures infiltrating the league.

When it suits. We must have a squeaky clean squad atm.

I reckon a large number of past heroes (some of which remain employed in some capacity in the game) would be chuckling with our approach.

I gave 5 names and of that you're claiming that either Crichton or Collins (two Kangaroos) are big time gangsters.

Lemme guess... Sam Kerr is the kingpin of their cartel?

Sorry but I don't buy your 'you would be surprised to know about how deep the underworld goes'. It's a good story that may trigger intrigue from some. However, I think you'll find that (as usual) gangsters are not cool/respected... they are all d!clheads like Meehan, Carter, Watts and friends who happen upon the club due to talent at a cut-price and are then rapidly shown the door (regularly before playing a single game of NRL).

                • As the saying goes: "That was then, this is now".

Now, Trump is back in the White House, and is making new rules at express pace.
                  What was, is no more.

                  Same deal at the Roosters.

I dunno how Sam Kerr knows, but they are correct. One of those 5 players you mentioned has extended family members who are crims. I've met both the family members and player. And I'm definitely not suggesting that the player has ever done anything illegal, but rather just happens to be related.

                    • I think it's less that fans don't have a clue as it is fans don't give a toss as long as they're good at footy. I don't know them, I don't care to know them. I watch them play footy every week for the club I support. That being said, it doesn't take a genius to figure out which of them the simp is talking about.

                        lol

You don't buy my claim about organised crime because you haven't got the slightest clue like the majority and that's perfectly fine because my whole point is that if anybody knows about this stuff it's Nick Politis, he isn't naive and a business man of his stature has probably come across more gangsters than any of us ever will they are all over legitimate businesses across Sydney who do you think runs the construction industry lol, in 2009 1/3 of our team was hanging around Ibrahim associates every week of course Politis knows all about it. Cocaine and gambling is rife throughout the game from top to bottom of the playing pyramid because organised crime is deeply embedded it's just how it is.

NSW police didn't give Todd Greenberg a 46,000 page document 10 years ago on organised crime infiltrating the NRL for no reason. Just google "nrl players organised crime" and go down the rabbit hole of publicly available information and then when you see how much publicly available information there is on the subject imagine how much goes on that we don't know about and that's the stuff that someone like Politis will understand better than any of us on this website.

I didn't see your part somewhere else saying "someone like SBW would never do it anyway" lol you might want to watch some SBW interviews reflecting on his younger days at the Bulldogs and why he converted to Islam because that example is showing how little you know, you don't need to be an expert on everything.
