The team must be up here already and training all week in the stinking heat ahead of their match against the Drongoes.

I just ran into Nat Butcher at my local shopping centre.

I said: Mate, what the hell happened yesterday?

He sort of grinned sheepishly and replied: Yeah, it wasn't good, was it? I dunno what happened.

    I said: Are you worried?

    He said: No, not really.

I then asked: How's Sam Walker going?

His eyes lit up and he said: Yeah, he's going really good.

I said: Will he be back early or on schedule?

He said: No mate, he'll be back on schedule.

I then left him to pack his tot and wife into their hired Tesla (the only blight on an otherwise good conversation)!
1985: 1 try vs Parramatta, 1 try vs Manly, 1 try vs Wests, 2 tries vs Souffs
1986: 2 tries vs Illawarra, 1 try vs Balmain, 2 tries vs Norths.

Hopefully the coach told Nat that the game is in Queensland, after yesterday's performance.

That sounds like a very strange story, Carlos...

Umm no, I saw him in the car park and thought 'that's Nat Butcher'. I remembered they were playing the Drongoes on the weekend and checked on my phone to make sure. Stupidly, I didn't check where. I mistakenly figured that they must have been playing in Brisbane. He had Qld plates, so I figured it must have been a rental.

Then I passed him in the shops and thought "yep, that's definitely him". I then steered my trolley to where he was shopping and said: "Are you Nat Butcher?"

            He answered in the affirmative.

Sorry there wasn't a punchline, but now it's got me wondering what the hell he was doing up here!

I actually checked the draw on my phone when I first spotted him as he parked right next to me. I confirmed who we were playing and figured that's why he was on the GC and then I spoke to him in Woolies.

Given we're playing in Sydney (thanks for clarifying), it's now a mystery as to what he was doing up here.

                Ok.

Now you've got me generally intrigued.

Has Butcher signed with the Titans?

Maybe he was just "shopping" around

I'm not one for conspiracy theories, but should I be ringing the mole?

I didn't get a chance to peek into his trolley, but he was loitering around the fruit, vege and meat section. Meanwhile, I was putting diet coke, fruit juice and frozen dinners into mine!

The reason I wasn't initially sure it was him, is that he wasn't as big as I thought he might be. I'm a good 30 years older, but towered over him.

From memory, his wife was blonde and the kid was a cutie.

He’d gone interstate to escape the scrutiny, when the ‘ten try hero’ Carlos rams his trolley into his Tesla and starts pummeling him on behalf of the Chookpen. It wasn’t until you let him off the hook and asked about Sam Walker did he feel relief.

The question should’ve been, how is Egan’s general kicking game.

Maybe he has a second family on the Gold Coast.
