Is he in the top 30?

I know I said I’d give it 6 weeks to see how out number 7 goes.
    I'm planning ahead.

if we are going to waste 6 weeks we should just go for it.
    Blood some young guys.

I'm guessing that he is in the top 30 at the moment. He is one of a few players that could drop-out should we sign someone else.

I too believe that he should be given an opportunity in first grade if our halves fail to perform, and assuming he's playing well in reserve grade.

Played well in the NSW Cup trial win 34 - 22 against Newcastle last Sunday.

I’d rather go down swinging in the first 6 rounds , playing Townsend is not the way.
I’ll be happy to be wrong if we are going well after 6 rounds.
we should give some young talent a go.

I've never seen him play so I can't comment on his talents but it's a balancing act with promoting younger players in to the top grade you can sink their career if they come up too early and are part of a team getting flogged every week. If the forwards are getting busted every week I'd rather have Townsend stink the joint up than throw a rookie half in to a losing cause.

I’m with you mate. I doubt we will get anywhere near the 8 this year, so let’s use the year wisely to give the next batch of premiership winners their opportunity in FG before they get that experience elsewhere. I can cope if we come last but unearth a young superstar or two who can help bring us back to the top in a couple of years.

Benji tried this last season and whilst they used a thousand players, the question still remains on whether or not they went forward or backwards. Their attack improved but their defense went from terrible to putrid.

We don't want to hinder his development but Townsend needs to add value.

If Townsend is playing poorly then dropping him will be warranted but people get way too excited about young players and think that all you have to do is play them and they turn in to the next immortal which isn't how it works, if Savala is looked at as a future prospect the club should have a clear pan of integrating him in to first grade and throwing him in the deep end for round 1 wouldn't be it unless we have major injuries.

Good call about the Tigers, they were smart to go after Luai which will help their players a lot this year so it remains to be seen but they are also under a pressure as they can't claim to be underdogs anymore it's the first time in over a decade that there are expectations around that club and all their young players have done in recent years is learn how to lose. They got blown off the park by a decimated Parra team in the wooden spoon playoff when they were expected to play well.

I thought he played very well in Cup last year but have no idea how any of them will go in NRL. At least he is a very big half so his defence should be OK. I'm not sure how any of the younger guys will go in NRL. The trials didn't look good but most of them played out of position

As Rooster6 pointed out he spent all his NRL trial minutes playing lock.

I don't think Robbo sees him as our #7 answer, Rodwell is the next in line it seems.

                          I like Savala however

Hugo is a supplementary List Contact (the Old Development Contract) - Hugo Savala , Jake Elliot , Reece Foley, Benaiah Loelu

It's confusing how many players are in the top 30 - 21 to 26 players according to various sites - Some were saying Zack - Dockar-Clay re-signed for 1 year - but nothing reported.

Sydney Roosters list 30 players but some of these are the supplementary list players mentioned above.

Sometimes they do turn into the next Immortal, if not a top tier player. Most rugby league superstars over the years were given their early opportunities to shine. Many get a chance due to injury and never look back.

It worked for Andrew Johns…….debut at 19, 23 points and man of the match. He took his opportunity and it worked out OK.
Immortal in waiting Cameron Smith…..debut at 19, blooded for 2 FG games that year but played every game the following.
Peter Sterling debuted in a semi final at 18, played a handful of games the next year before really establishing himself the following. He couldn’t shift Mick Pattison out of half, but needed FG experience to build his game. Not many remember Mick Pattison.

If the club didn’t think Savala was a prospect; he wouldn’t be here. He’s a product of our academy and he’s 22 years old; hardly a youngster.
