Match Preview | Rugby League returns to Allianz Stadium

The Roosters will be aiming to defy their doubters when they host a new-look Brisbane outfit to launch their season.

Trent Robinson has lost a host of experience in the off-season across both the forwards and the backs, headlined by Jared Waerea-Hargreaves and half Luke Keary's move to the Super League.

Their depth to start the season has also been severely tested with long-term injuries to Sam Walker and Brandon Smith and the two-game suspension handed to Spencer Leniu for a high shot in the trial against Newcastle.

For the Broncos however, what's old is new again with the signing of Ben Hunt, who has returned to the club keen to make an instant impact.

Starting the year in the halves alongside skipper Adam Reynolds, the duo will be the oldest halves pairing in the competition, but showed they are still plenty quick between the ears after combining well to help Brisbane earn back-to-back Pre-Season Challenge titles in their final round win against the Bulldogs.

    Team News

Roosters: James Tedesco leads a new-look Roosters side that includes debutant Robert Toia in the centres alongside Mark Nawaqawitanase in just his second NRL game. Nawaqawitanase has recovered from a calf injury suffered in the final trial game against the Knights. Experienced playmaker Chad Townsend plays his first game as a Rooster in the No.7 jersey, partnering Sandon Smith in the halves. In the forwards Naufahu Whyte steps up to fill the boots of club legend Jared Waerea-Hargreaves after coming off the bench in 16 of his 23 games last year. The bench includes 20-year-old back-rower Salesi Foketi on NRL debut and teenager Blake Steep in his fourth career game.

Broncos: Coach Michael Maguire has unveiled a new-look team to launch his first season in charge of the Broncos. Cory Paix has won the starting hooker role after an impressive pre-season and will play his first NRL game since Round 27, 2023, with Billy Walters to come from the bench. In a remarkable return, former Bronco Gehamat Shibasaki – who originally re-joined the club on a train-and-replace deal before being upgraded to a development contract – will partner Deine Mariner in the centres, with Kotoni Staggs (quad) sidelined. Pat Carrigan moves to prop with Kobe Hetherington starting at lock, while Jack Gosiewski, who missed the back end of last season with a broken arm, starts in the second row ahead of Brendan Piakura, who will come from the bench.

      Refer to post #8.

"Do you expect me to talk"? "No, Mr. Bond, I expect you to die".

The below is from Waylander posted on February 11 in a Teams Up pre-season team.

On a side note, I will NOT be posting team lists before games this year. I have too many things happening in my life right now to dedicate the time and effort to producing those posts on Tuesday arvo's, so whoever wants to take over the mantle, please be my guest.

Can't wait to watch us play.

          GO EASTS !!
I’d be more worried about our team than a spelling typo. A bit petty pointing it out really.

I’d like to thank Waylander for doing the Team List Tuesday over the past few seasons. Well done.

Further more, I’d like to welcome Kling to the task and wish him well hence forth.

Could I ask one addition though, please post the opposing team so we know what we’re up against.

That team is so shit how is that dud Docker-Clay still here? If Brisbane don't win by 30+ they're struggling

                Thanks for the thoughts.

Not the strongest team we’ve put on the park I really think we will struggle in the middle. Here’s a fun stat that Bondi Boy will just love …
Our 2 props, 2 second rowers and our lock have a combined weight of 503kgs. Our back 5 weighs 507kgs.

I would be staggered if we weren’t unique in this.

I noticed however, you edited your post to correct your spelling mistake, but you can't undo what has been quoted. It was nothing but a joke that obviously went way over your head. So be it.

                    I like your optimism!

Don't know why most here are whinging about the makeup of the team. What and who were they expecting?

Id love a win but most of all i want to see them run out with the right attitude.....run hard, tackle hard, dont give up.

Angus and Victor may not have the C against their names but they really need to lead the way.

Good luck boys. Bring it on!!!

Gees what a drop in the 17 and 22 man squad compared to 2024
there has to be some sort of look into how we lost 6 players worth $4m or 1/3 if the cap and pick up 2 guys worth $800k only - wtf have we been doing?

the May decision to let him go has backfired big time with 1 prop from last year Avaialable
allthough I think Whyte will be our best prop this year
last year we had players out but had depth to cover the 17
this year we have about the worst bench I have seen - 3 backrowers and an average utility
again robbo has put Wong back to the bench over Nat
Whyte and Collins must be up for some big minutes - where are the Vaa bros?

robbo will have huge pressure actually getting the best out of young players like Wong, toia and co

our attack will struggle without walker and im afraid teddy will overplay his hand again like 2023

                      Broncos by 20

If you want Front Rowers who play they Roosters footy, they must actually be Small Backrowers

and the backrowers must be locks....and the hooker must also be a lock

                          or something....

We all knew coming into the season it would be a sh*t show but now that we are finally here it farken sucks ass. That team is shocking I’m sorry but Haas and Carrigan will own the middle here and I’m worried that they will target Elvis all night long led by Reece.

                                Im worried boys.
