  • the club has a plan. deadwood has been cleared out for the past few years. whether he is going mid season because we have some kind of signing ace up our sleave or it was granted on compassionate grounds. sammy will not be missed, he has been average for ages bar yesterdays performance. some times you have to make tough decsions, yes hes a nice guy, good clubman, popular with whoever but good of the club first. it wasnt long ago ppl blew up about nice guy anasta not being offered a new contract and ppl signed a petition, look how far that got us.
im happy even if the reason is as small as giving somone a crack at wing for the rest of the year so we can see where we are at for next year.

I also heard that we have signed one of Canterburys very good youngsters, maybe we are also getting him early? He is a centre I believe. Could also be Jennings? Who knows what is going on. One thing I know for sure, Roosters wouldn't release him mid-season without benefitting in some way or another.
How about the Waikato Chiefs? Do you think Nick did a deal with them? Also the All Blacks.. SBW is contracted to both of them this season too.

          This would be amazing.

          Exactly what we need.

          And exactly what he needs.

I can't believe he's wasting his god given skills in that circus of a game. Plus, that team is an abomination.

BP, that 'abomination' that are the GWS is actually tracking along a lot better than people predicted. They play with plenty of heart and when those young kids develop muscle to go with the skills they have, they will cause plenty of headaches and adapt a lot quicker than the Gold Coast Suns. I realise you don't like the game but I love AFL as much as I love league. I am a Carlton supporter but have watched plenty of the GWS.
I suppose if we were to sign Israel though then that would probably put an end to SBW coming here. I can't imagine the Club being able to afford both.

              • I've been very vocal of late about Sam's ability ( lack of ) but if this story is true it's disgraceful.

I really do respect the bloke for his efforts and service's to the club, I just think he's not up to modern day standards is all.

If it's his decision to go then fair enough, but if we're pushing him for the sake of half a years salary it's poor.

He can still finish up at Newtown and have his day back in 1sts on round 26 though.

                • there is no way sbw is coming to the roosters THIS year.. he will be starting for the all blacks in the rugby championships which goes from july - the end of October. after that he has a three week tour in Britain/ europe which finishes in december. i assume then and only then will he join the roosters, if he is at all - im guessing that also see outs his all blacks contract.

I don't pay them any attention. Last time I looked they were getting royally flogged, week in, week out.

Initially they were. Then they beat the Suns who have been in the comp a year longer. On the weekend they lost to Richmond by 12 points. Richmond have been playing great over the past month. GWS are improving rapidly.

Contracts run from November to October,so only a 3rd of his salary needs to be payed.
Sounds like he has asked for a early release anyway,so I doubt it anything to do with this years cap money...

No chance. The AFL as an organisation would not allow it to happen. Even if he did want out.

The Roosters would be a better team if they played with the heart of the GWS young kids.

I believe the AFL would allow it because he is an embarrassment to the game. He is not AFL first grade quality and I doubt he ever will be. They are better off throwing his money at someone else.

It will happen as paying $1M a season to someone who is embarrassing himself and the game is not a good look.
