I've made more of an effort to watch the Super League this year and a young player by the name of Harry Smith who plays 5/8 for Wigan has caught my eye, not sure how many people here watch the Super League but in my opinion he reminds me of Adam Reynolds, he's a player that isn't flashy but has a great kicking game, is a good playmaker and has been praised in the media and by fans from things such as the most underrated player in the world to the best half England has ever seen to being the secret behind the success of the Wigan Warriors, high praise for a guy I'd never really paid much attention to until recently.
Here are some of his achievements at just 25 years old:
- Current English International with 6 caps for his country.
- 2 x Super League winner in 2023 and 2024 and 3 x their equivalent of a minor prem
- 2 x Challenge Cup and 1 x World Club Challenge winner
- 1 x Player Of The Series for the three game international series between England and Tonga in 2023.
---
My thought process is with so little halves options becoming available in the free agency pool perhaps this could be the prospect we're looking for? He's the opposite of Sam Walker which I think is what Sam needs from a halves partner, comes from a winning culture and would probably be available relatively quickly if an NRL opportunity came up. The one flaw I've seen thus far is that he's quite small at just 5'8 and 82 KG but aside from that he seems perfect.
From anyone who has seen this fella play what do you think? Would he be better than what we currently have in Sandon and Townsend?
