We can’t do that with the low salary cap.

What’s more, we have always recruited great for our rep sides like HM and SG Ball, so really the only difference here is we are now seemingly targeting all our player development focus on seniors players away from the first grade squad to the reserve grade squad… which is nuts to me.

i mean **** me we had won more premierships than any club in the comp this century up until 2020. No idea why they thought we had to reinvent the wheel
I don't think the club is developing a junior nursery through Bondi United or Clovelly Crocodiles.

I think what they are doing is working quite well. The pathway teams have been strong for a few years now.

And that’s translated to how many first graders? ****ing none. We haven’t had a really good pathways player come through since bloody Joey Manu.

Besides like I said, we won more premierships than any other club from 2000-2020 before we went down this route. Don’t know why we felt the neee to change what was clearly working

There's quite a few in the squad this week. They are now getting their chance.

That’s the problem though, we haven’t been developing players well since Joey Manu, Latrell Mitchell, Victor Radley, Connor Watson & Nat Butcher all came through at the same time.

Like what do you think was clearly working since then? We haven’t been able to buy our way out of not developing young talent. It’s been a cornerstone of what we’ve done so well for years, people just overlook it because they only ever see the big names.

For balance... we did blood a full generation (or two) of stars and most moved on. I'm tired and going off head but what was that dream team? Like... Latrell, Manu, Sitili, Radley, Watson, Smith, Lam...etc. Then there's Cords, Friend, Maubs and co from previous generations. There's also a heap of guys who went through our systems and were poached because we didn't have space.

IMO our recruitment has always been targeted towards POD players like SBW, Cronk, Jennings...etc (yeah and guys like Cheese too, which cost us Verrills). We've lucked out with a few veteran forwards over the years but we took the risk of loading up for 2024 as we thought we could win a premiership!!!

Right now s*x and it s*x even more badly to have Brissy and Penrith first up. We then have the Drongos again in round 6 and Panthers in 7.

Hmmm... coincidence you say? I don't think it's completely implausible that Nick's negotiated a deal where we play the Panthers, Brisbane and Storm twice early on (haven't checked when we play the Storm) and get all our byes in the first half of the year.

It's gonna be a rough year but IMO as our youngsters get more experienced we'll start to see some much better footy. We've been here before in 2016. Also our current injury/suspension toll is a bloodbath to boot.

People say the Panthers don't have building years but they were an absolute joke for at least a decade (longer!!!) Thanks to Stuart Ayres and his corrupt BS they had $$$ funnelled into vote buying sports facility investments for years and Gus had his '5 year plan' which was always made fun of. They've come good now... bravo... but it took them long enough and we're yet to see how well they recover when they do fall.

Roosters in for a long year as punters queue up the kick the NRL’s glamour club

The trolls were out in force after the Roosters’ heavy loss to the Broncos, but why do rival fans thrive on their pain and misery? This is rugby league’s tall poppy syndrome at its worst, writes DEAN RITCHIE

What delight do fans get from tearing down the Sydney Roosters?

It’s got me buggered why rival supporters seem to thrive on any pain and misery the Roosters endure.

The ugly trolls were out in numbers after the Roosters’ heavy loss to Brisbane last Thursday night and will no doubt be death-riding them again this Friday night against Penrith.

This is rugby league’s tall poppy syndrome at its worst.

The Roosters should be admired. Rather than dance on their grave, why don’t the club’s detractors demand their own club rise to the lofty levels attained at Bondi Junction?

I guarantee fans from clubs such as Wests Tigers, Parramatta, St George Illawarra would love to replicate the Roosters’ results and premierships.

The Roosters have reached the finals 22 times in the past 29 seasons. Truly remarkable. Shouldn’t we, as a game, be lauding this imposing record?

I know what you will say – they are late-sipping snobs, Ferrari-driving billionaires, but surely that stereotype is long gone.

The Roosters have long been forced to endure ridiculous accusations about cheating the salary cap.

There has never been any evidence of such behaviour and the club has never been breached. So guess what? The suggestions are ill-informed rubbish.

It appears clear that the Roosters will struggle this season after losing a myriad of star players. And aren’t punters lining up to kick them.

The Roosters have only missed the finals once under Trent Robinson, in 2016. Yet suddenly Robinson can’t coach, according to the uneducated hordes.

There is a plan in place to restore the Roosters.

In 2020, before the World Club Challenge, the Roosters visited Barcelona FC, who boasted an Academy for junior and rising stars.

The Roosters were sold and returned home to buy a block of units in Kingsford which now house the next generation of NRL players.

It may take time but it will happen.

Look at Penrith. Gus Gould chipped away at the Panthers’ juniors for years and now look at the results.

Previously the Roosters have bought their way out of trouble, dating back to Arthur Beetson, Ron Coote, Bob Fulton, Brad Fittler, James Tedesco, even Dally Messenger.

Should the club have developed a plan after losing Luke Keary, Jared Waerea-Hargreaves, Joey Manu and Joseph Suaallii?

Probably, but now they want to develop from within. This year may be a struggle but the Roosters won’t be down for too long, take it as read.

Some of the vitriol hurled at the Roosters is nasty and unnecessary.

Tedesco is a NSW legend, Daniel Tupou is a champion bloke, Victor Radley loves helping footy kids, Angus Crichton has fought hard to succeed against his own demons while Lindsay Collins plays with 100 per cent commitment.

What is there to dislike about this mob?

I was with the Roosters in Los Angeles last year before Vegas and they were among the most respectful sides I’ve ever dealt with.

Rugby league often shows its true passion. It’s what we love most about our wonderful game.

But I will always be baffled why we seem to thrive on, and celebrate, watching our best teams fail.

                Jealousy is a horrible trait.

Just hope the plan works. Rounds 3, 4 and 5 are important to show improvement.

Aye, its going to be a rough, rocky ride to start

Our luck has deserted us at the moment, we are playing the best sides in the world and that is with a third of our total squad unavailable.

With many front line forwards unavailable (Cheese, Nat and Egan Butcher, Spencer, Radley, DLS AND X Va'a) we have no choice but to blood the next best available.

Losing Walker in September hurt us last year. and will hurt us this year.

He is our Nathan Cleary, the player the Roosters are building the team around.

How different if luck was with us and everyone in the squad was available

                        Nick Politis leads this change.
This change was born 5 years ago during there trip to Barcelona FC.
They saw how their Academy and Pathways systems were vital to Barcelona's success in winning every trophy in Europe with a developed-side, bar one.

Nick Politis was impressed and saw an opportunity. He could see the long term benefits of implementing the Barcelona way into the Roosters Way.
Nick's team includes Robbo, Aubs, Friend, and Cordner (all visited Barcalona)

***Some of the changes that have occurred
                        Expansion of Rooster pathways nurseries.
Academy and housing and care provided for high quality, long distant, young talent.
Recruitment - Focus on high quality young players that meet Roosters standards, focus on players that will be future 200 game NRL players
Training - Same as NRL level with growth and development high priority
More exposure/promotion to higher graded games

We could see last year when the Roosters "New" NSW Cup side was filled with youth, they struggled at first however they improved as the season wore on.
Now many are playing NRL this year.
This year there was only one player with NRL experience in the R1 NSW Cup team

The Roosters have decided this is the ideal running and recruitment strategy's for the future long term success of the club.

With not much on the market in 2025 and not wanting to block pathways players the Roosters will continue to build there future team around Sam Walker

We have faced some obstacles and difficulties to start this season with a host of players unavailable,

With tough matches to start the season even last years side would be tested

Robson has been added for 2026 to the spine which will be Robson, Walker, S. Smith and Teddy

Who will be our next player of the caliber of Sam Walker or Lachlan Galvin?

U smoking too much weed these days Bono.

Developmental pathways dominated club??? lol...total myth...we have never been a development dominated club and never will.

So u saying we should rely on development at the expense of buying established players? Recipe for disaster...we would be bottom 4 for the next 5 to 10 years, the club would be busted and these developed players would want out of a loser culture club. Basically we would be a feeder club to the rest of the NRL.

We have tried to develop players like Joe Sauilli & the Zac Fittler's etc etc...yeah that worked out hey!!

Even the best development club in the Panthers don't totally rely on development, that;s why they signed Isaiah Papalii & Blaize Talagi to replace the few departing ones. Paul Alamoti, Scott Sorenson, Luke Garner, Matt Eisenhuth etc etc are not panthers developed players. And their development system is a thousand time better than ours.

I reckon the autopsy will eventually reveal that Robbo can't assemble and coach a team to victory in the 6 again era.

His playing system and the style of player he opts for are hardwired and outdated. Good enough to make the finals however not enough to win a comp!

Robbo can't adjust his thinking and he'll eventually be moved on by our club imo.
