  • Roosters circle disgruntled Dragons prop Molo

    Phil Rothfield

The Sydney Roosters are showing interest in signing former Queensland Origin prop Francis Molo from St George Illawarra as his contract standoff with the Dragons continues.

The embattled Roosters, flogged by the Broncos last week, are desperate to explore the availability of Molo in a bid to shore up their middle.

The Roosters have a substantial amount of spare cash in the salary cap which was originally kept aside for Joseph Manu at the back end of the year but he’s signed with French rugby.

They are also discussing a potential approach to old war horse Jared Waerea-Hargreaves, who is currently playing for Hull KR in the UK Super League, about buying out his contract and bringing him back to the Roosters immediately.

Another flogging against bogey side Penrith on Friday night would put enormous pressure on coach Trent Robinson and his recruitment team to look outside his current top-30 roster for extra clout and forward grunt.

The Dragons are reluctantly on the verge of releasing Molo to make way for Wests Tigers’ David Klemmer.

But not before Molo repays a significant amount of money that was advanced to him last year.

If any of this is true it will be a sure sign that the club and robbo have pressed the panic button and all this talk of the academy is just fluff

Ah yep, just what every side needs. An underwhelming journeyman prop with attitude issues. In Robbo we trust right? The Pen seemingly has more faith in our academy props than the actual coach does.

We’ll see how much faith they have in young rodwell as a half, after news that Galvin will test his worth on the market come November 1.

I don't like it, losing May and Sitilli just to turn around and sign Francis Molo is a huge regression - almost transit lounge like
          But
With our current injuries and lack of forward depth i get it

Just don't expect to get excited when round 15 we run out a bench of
          Egan Butcher
          Nat Butcher
          Francis Molo
          Michael Molo

In saying all that i prefer Klemmer to Molo which is saying something, heck i even prefer Matt Lodge to Klemmer.....

Yup. Good point. I don't see Galvin as anywhere near the finished article. Be interesting to see if a team jumps and panics and overpays.

I can't see us going after Galvin. Parra will throw bucket loads at him.

Apart from all the commentators wetting their pants over him what has he achieved? What's his record? What are his stats? The same commentators said Brooks was going to be NSW halfback for ten years.

Yes he is young but we have young halves who are showing plenty of potential too. He is only available from 2027 and by that time Elliot and Rodwell would probably be ready to play NRL.

Plus he has a bit of a big head on him the way he talks despite achieving nothing to date. He reads and believes his own media hype. Completely different to Sammy despite all the hype on him.

I think it's sort of a reminder of the dearth of top quality halves in the comp that are running around. At least ones that are available. Obviously there's the Cleary, Hughes, DCE bracket then you have guys like Moses, Sammy and Hynes, who even then the latter 2 are a bit raw and unproven still.

So when a young bloke comes in and does a few good things the hype train rolls up. I do think he's quality and has a good future but you are right I've seem him do just as many bad things as good things. I reckon some club will panic and snap him up on huge coin and then regret it when he doesn't end up being "the guy". I agree Parra makes sense. They'll have a heap of coin left over and he is boyhood Parra tragic I think.

The Brown deal will only worsen the situation as you have a relatively unproven half commanding stupid money, any half decent one now will try and get an extra 150-200k a season on their next deal.

People also seem to forget halves don't end up reaching the peak of their powers until they're 28+. Cleary is an outlier not the norm. Sammy is also a rare case. Even then, both of those guys will be better at 30 than they are now.

Galvin and Sammy Walker will do just nicely for the next 10 years.

They could potentially be the future Australian halves combination.

Maybe the Roosters powerbrokers remember the try that Molo scored against us on Anzac day in 2022.
Took the ball on our quarter line, ran straight through our forwards,
                      and scored under the posts.
I was at that game, and sure as hell remember it.

Seems like they are panicking royally. Molo and JWH.....wouldn't mind JW coming back just as a bench player and motivator for the kids.

Really makes the releasing of Sitili and May.....who both played real well last round, look bloody stupid.

It's akin to buying toilet paper during Covid.

I tend to agree , it is all potential at the moment . I don’t think he is a game changer for our current woes . Apparently Parra are lining him up
