I did hear from somewhere that he wasn't keen on going to the Roosters awards night or something because he was flying over to England already a few days after that. I get that attitude is not the best but to terminate him for it would be silly. You have those enigmas in successful sides, as long as he put in on the field and at training I wouldn't care if I was the coach.

Whether there was a specific incident or not resulting in May’s sacking is irrelevant. From a business perspective getting rid of May was a sound decision. I don’t think when Robbo said they were moving in a different direction that it had anything to do with the style of football the Roosters wanted to play. You’ve invested a lot of time, money and effort into an academy to build a culture of well rounded footy players. Now the outputs of that academy are coming through the last thing you want is someone in the ranks who is nonchalant and seems to have more interest in a pay check and their podcast / media interviews (seriously how many times can you discuss that Robbo call) than an interest in footy undoing all that work.
May was a flight risk for us and will be for the Tigers.
I could only imagine this place and the anger directed towards management if he had done that mid season, and while I don’t know the guy from watching / reading his interviews that was a real possibility.

Also the Storm have one of the best systems in Australian sport and they have Cameron Munster as their star player. Hardly an advertisement of professionalism and attitude. Those rogue players with weird personalities should be embraced and built around when they deliver where it matters.

Why is it strange that this happened to May with a 2 year extension but not Sitili and his 4 year extension? May could have negotiated with rival clubs at the end of this year and in addition to his perceived aloofness that's rubbed the coach the wrong way I don't think Robinson wanted to spend a year developing him and then he negotiates a big deal somewhere else and we have 2 wasted years of May it's better to have Whyte, Va'a x 2 step up in to those minutes. In 2026 no one will care about May anymore because the forward pack will be powering along.

Cheese was adamant that no specific incident occured that led to May getting turfed by the club. Now I know most of the "insiders" on here will point to the fact why would a current player say anything on the contrary... but this Brandon Smith we are talking about. He is open and honest to his own detriment and is known for accidentally throwing many of his mates under the bus, including in this same podcast alone. He has no filter I think even if he was hiding something he'd struggle to contain a straight face at the very least when discussing the May situation.
What he said was that May is incredibly nonchalant and that his attitude can come across as non caring or selfish as he generally only focuses on his own game as opposed to listening in on team video sessions, etc. He said May is a quality human being and one of the nicest blokes in the squad but with the wrong context he can be considered disinterested. He said it all came down to a clash of personalities and that was all it was. Then as he went to elaborate further he obviously realised he was going to be talking against his current coach and still was involved with the club so sort of smirked and said, some personalities just don't go well together.
This I think confirms what I've been saying the whole time. Robbo did not appreciate May's attitude or didn't think he "bought into the culture" of the Roosters. He's the coach, he has every right to make that call. However given we are talking about one of our best performers last year, and now we are looking at bottom of the barrel replacements to fill the void this year (e.g. Molo has his own reported attitude problems), that stubbornness has cost our club and not for the first time.
Mitch rules the roost
The exit of Terrell May from the Roosters is the first public act from new director of football Mitch Aubusson. He didn’t act without coach Trent Robinson, but he was the driving force.
Rooster legends Jake Friend and Boyd Cordner have also been working on getting the culture of the club back on track. May did nothing wrong, but his attitude was not what the club wants.
And they didn’t like the impact that was having on others, such as Spencer Leniu and Siua Wong. It’s a significant U-turn for a club that has had its recruitment questioned since the signing of Matt Lodge.
