  • Big test for Dom Young tonight

Last year the Panthers really picked on him in his yardage carries. They used his carries to smash him and drive him back, earn a slow play the ball and then assert momentum in the defensive set.

I really want to see this guy succeed because he is a supreme athlete and a real slick mover in open space but to me he needs to start showing some signs of improvement and self development and tonight is a massive test for him.

We can not afford weak carries out of our own end against the Panthers and end up kicking form within our own 40 every set... That's how Penrith strangle sides.

Go well young man and prove us doubters wrong!

Things that may work in Young's favour tonight.

    1. No Luai.
    2. It's early in the season so the Panthers aren't in full swing.
    3. Nathan Cleary plays predominately on the opposite side.
    4. One of the Panthers players has loaded up on a Roosters win
    5. Every dog has it's day. Come on Dom, slide and stick to your man. You can do it!

He's more likely to get sent off again. I expect at least 3 tries to be conceded from his piss weak defence tonight.

I dislike deathriding our players, and Dom seems like a nice dude, but my hope for him being a real star for us is almost at 0%.

Even things that are not clearly outright "errors" but are obviously incorrect decisions, he makes multiple every week. His defense is woeful, his positioning is poor, and his carries are probably worst of all. Runs sideways and gets belted and driven back on virtually every character.

I was stoked when we bought him, but I'm pretty over it now. Hasn't really been any signs of improvement in these areas.

Nick loves a good looking, marketable player.
He scored two, let in four last week.

Big test for the halves kicking game this week. If they can kick to the corners and the chase is good, maybe.. just maybe

I will consider tonight a victory if there are no tries scored down his wing....

Forget Penrith. We’ve got warriors next week and they put Manly away easily. Where are our wins going to come from this year?

That’s all we want is to give it a good go.

Another post bagging Dom Young ho hum - how many more will we see ?- Rooster 6 would be disappointed no tries down Dom's side - he actually stopped a couple and scored 1 - Shock Horror - The Guy can play - 22 tries in 23 games for the Roosters - 65 tries in 74 NRL games

I did not bag him, I have bagged him in the past but this thread was not that. I just said it was a big test and I think he passed.

He's never going to be a beast coming out of backfield but if he can just do what he did tonight, take some good carries and then we can utilise his athleticism in good ball then I'm happy to have in the side.

Dom played well, try enjoy the win and stop the petty one upping.

To be fair Young had luck on his side tonight. There were a number of poor reads however the Panthers failed to capitalise.

Anyways Dom is a Rooster and we love him.
